QUANTITATIVE REASONING

Section 1. Number/Digit Problems

1. The sum of two numbers is 126. Their difference is 38. Find the two number.

2. The sum of three consecutive integers is 75. Find the sum of the largest and smallest
integers.

3. The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 17. If 3 is added to the
numerator and 2 is added to the denominator, the value of the fraction is 1. What is the
original fraction?

Section 2. Age Problems

1. When Kaycee was born, his father’s age was the age of Kaycee now. The sum of their ages
now is 72. How old is Kaycee now?

2. Tong is 26 years old and Sandy is 5 years old. In how many years will Tong be twice as old as
Sandy?

3. In 6 years, B will be 2/3 as old as A, and 8 years ago, he was 1/5 as old as A. Find their ages.

Section 3. Mensuration Problems

1. The length of a rope is 50 feet. It should be cut into two parts so that one part is 10 feet
longer than the other part. Find the length of the shorter part.

2. The perimeter of a rectangle is 56 inches more than the length of the rectangle. The width is
10 inches. Find the length of the rectangle.

3. The length of a rectangle exceeds its width by 2 feet. If each dimension were increased by 3
feet, the area would be increased by 51 square feet. Find the original dimensions.

Section 4. Mixture Problems

1. How many ounces of pure gold must be added to 100 ounces, 40% pure to make a mixture
which is 65% pure?

2. How many liters of 60% solution of nitric acid should be added to 10 liters of a 30% solution
of nitric acid to obtain 50% solution?

3. A perfume maker wishes to blend perfume valued at P410 an ounce with a perfume worth
P250 an ounce to obtain a mixture of 40 ounces worth P300 an ounce. How much of the
P410 perfume should be used?
