BEST Training Program Sepaktakraw
RATIONALE
In section 2 of Republic Act (RA) No. 6847, known as the Philippine Sports Commission Act, states that it
is the policy of the State to promote physical education, encourage and sustain the development of
sports in the country to foster physical fitness, self-discipline, teamwork and excellence for the
development of healthy and alert citizenry through a unified national sports promotions and
development programs. Bicol Enthusiasts Sepaktakraw Federation gears towards the development of
an efficient and effective Sports Development Framework which leads to a sustainable sports resource
generation and development of highly skilled athletes. This framework will be used as a basis of our
school’s continued commitment in the promotion and development of sports not only in the province
but in the entire nation as well.
The technical and tactical development of majority of our young athletes today is left to volunteers,
especially the grass roots where it is the parents or their advisory teacher coaching their sons /
daughters, unless they enroll their sons / daughters in sports clinic which commonly provided during
summer time. But summer sports clinic commonly caters to those who can only afford to pay the
training fee.
The program will be training not only the athletes but the coaches and trainers who have passionate
devotion towards excellence and achievement in sports. They will be provided with adequate
knowledge and technical and tactical support for them to be able to organize (if the Sepak Takraw
Sports is not part of their sports program) and train them with accordance to the International Rules and
Regulations governing Sepaktakraw Sports.
This Sepaktakraw Sports Development Framework will basically provide a springboard to regenerate
potential resource generations, additional sponsorship grants, and to come up with local competitions
and trainings as marketing and promotion tools of the City. This is also designed to come up with a
strategy to further improve the performance of the student-athletes.
The Sepaktakraw Sports Development activities have two phases: Sepaktakraw Coaching Training
Program and the Athletes Developmental Training Program.
In the Theoretical Concept, all coaches and assistant coaches will be introduced to different theoretical
concepts of Sepaktakraw Coaching which include the Psychological Approach of Coaching, Modeling
Coaching, Sociological Approach, and Pedagogical Approach of Coaching. These are the basic
foundations of effective coaching development.
In the Technical Concept, the participants will be introduced to the technicalities of the sports. They will
learn the International Rules and Regulations governing the Sepaktakraw Sports. This area will be the
second developmental area where coaches and assistant coaches will learn the different basic
techniques in preparation of athletes for the training and practice sessions. They will undergo extensive
training on the development of Sports Periodization Program (General Preparation Period, Transition
Period, Perfection Period and Game / Competition Period).
In the Practical Concepts, all coaches and assistant coaches will commence the training and the
application of the Sports Periodization Program which they have designed in the previous concept.
The training program follows the sequence of Periodization Training where trainees will be trained
based on the 4 cycles of Periodization, namely: General Preparation Period, Transition Period, Perfection
Period or Pre-Competitive Period and Game/Competition Period.
