ABSTRACT

In this project we propose a novel Single Source Switched Capacitor

Based 9 level Multilevel Inverter using reduced number of switches, three
capacitors and a single dc source. Multilevel inverters are widely used in
various applications due to their ability to generate high-quality output voltage
waveforms and reduce harmonic distortion. This inverter design inherent
voltage-balancing capabilities of switched capacitors, eliminating the need for
multiple DC sources or bulky external passive components. However,
traditional multilevel inverters require a large number of power semiconductor
devices and passive components, leading to increased cost, complexity, and
size. Multilevel inverters play a crucial role in the electric vehicle industry and
also they are used in EV powertrains to convert DC power from batteries into
AC power for driving electric motors. In existing projects maximum level of
single source multilevel inverters are used rather than using reduce number of
switches, by using that we can reduce the complexity, cost and size. This
innovative inverter design represents a significant advancement in power
electronics, having the way for more efficient and affordable multilevel inverter
solutions in various domains.

Keywords: Powertrains, multilevel inverter, distortion, harmonics.
