IDENTIFICATION OF LABORATORY

Alcohol Lamp

Alcohol lamp is used to produce an open flame. It is a primary

source of heat when there is natural gas available in the
laboratory. It generates sufficient heat to conduct standard
chemistry and microbiology experiments. It is also used for flame
sterilization of certain lab equipment.

Beaker
A beaker is a cylindrical glass or plastic vessel used for holding liquids.
It is a multi- purpose piece of equipment used for containing a chemical
reaction, measuring liquids, heating them over a Bunsen burner's flame or
collecting them in a titration experiment.

Test Tubes and Test Tube Rack

Test tubes are used to hold some amount of liquid or powdered material,
and are kept vertically so that the open side is up top and the closed
end is at the bottom. They are stored in the labs in special racks called test tube
racks that allow the tubes to stand upright. This also reduces
some accidental jolting.

Test Rack
Test rack is typically used in various industries, especially in
manufacturing and engineering, to test, evaluate, or simulate the
performance and functionality of electronic or mechanical components,
systems, or products. It provides a controlled environment for conducting
experiments, quality control tests, or validation procedures. Test racks
can vary widely in complexity, ranging from simple setups to highly
specialized equipment used for testing intricate systems.

Evaporating Dish

An evaporating dish is a laboratory glassware item used for evaporating

small amounts of liquids to concentrate solutions or recover dissolved
substances. It has a wide, shallow, and flat bottom with a spout for easy
pouring. Evaporating dishes are commonly used in chemistry for tasks
such as crystallization, concentrating solutions, and drying out
substances. The broad surface area of the dish facilitates quicker
evaporation, helping to separate a solute from its solvent or to isolate a
dissolved substance.

Funnel

Funnel is a cone-shaped or tapered utensil with a wide opening at the

top and a narrow tube at the bottom. It's used to channel liquids or fine-
grained substances into containers with smaller openings, reducing
spillage and mess.

Bunsen Burner

Bunsen burners are used in chemistry laboratories for tasks such as

heating solutions, evaporating liquids, performing flame tests to identify
elements based on their characteristic colors, and conducting various
chemical reactions that require heat. The burner's adjustable flame and
consistent heat source make it a versatile tool for a wide range of
laboratory procedures.

Analytical Balance

A extremely sensitive laboratory tool known as an analytical balance is

used in chemical analysis to precisely and correctly estimate the mass of
substances and objects down to 0.0001 grams.

Triple Beam Balance

The triple beam balance is a common tool for determining an object's

mass. It is made up of three beams, each of which is equipped with a
single sliding weight whose size corresponds to the notches on the
beams' notched scales.
Graduated Cylinder

Graduated cylinders are long, thin containers used to measure liquid

volume. They are not meant for weighing, heating, stirring, or mixing.

Erlenmeyer Flask

Liquids are contained in Erlenmeyer flasks, which are also used for
mixing, heating, chilling, incubating, filtering, storing, and other liquid-
handling procedures. For titrations and boiling liquids, their sloped sides
and small necks make it possible to whirl the contents without worrying about
spills.

Iron Stand
Iron stand supports, the iron ring when heating substances or mixtures in
a flask or beaker.

Iron Ring

To stabilize flask mounted to a ring stand. Iron rings are commonly used
in chemistry laboratories for supporting apparatus above the work
surface.

Clay Triangle
Clay triangle used to hold a crucible on iron ring to be heated by a
burner. clay triangle normally supports a crucible and allows the flame to
heat the crucible directly.

Thistle Tube

Thistle funnel is used in the laboratory to add small volumes of liquid. In

the preparation of chlorine gas, manganese dioxide is taken in the flask
and concentrated hydrochloric acid is added through a thistle funnel.

Condenser
A condenser's function is to allow high pressure and temperature
refrigerant vapor to condense and eject heat.

condenser is to receive the high-pressure gas from the compressor and convert this gas to a liquid.
Crucible with Cover

Crucible is used in the laboratory to contain chemical compounds when

heated to extremely high temperatures.

Stirring Rod
A stirring rod is a tool used to mix together liquids and solid materials
in order to combine them into a uniform mixture.

Test Tube Brush

Test tube brush are used for cleaning test tubes, therefore are
developed to be able to reach all corners of the glassware.

Mortar and Pestle

Mortar and pestles are great tools to mix, grind, smash, pulverize, and
pound both wet and dry ingredients.

Tripod

A tripod stand is a piece of laboratory equipment that is used to support

various items of glassware, such as beakers, flasks, and test tubes,
during experiments. The stand consists of three legs that are connected
at the top by a ring or clamp, which can be adjusted to hold the
glassware securely in place.

Florence Flask
A Florence Flask is used as a container to hold liquids. A Florence flask
has a round body, a long neck, and often a flat bottom. It is designed for
uniform heating, boiling, distillation and ease of swirling; it is produced
in a number of different glass thicknesses to stand different types of
use.

Water Bath

A Water bath is a laboratory equipment that is used to incubate samples

at a constant temperature over a long period of time. Water bath is a
preferred heat source for heating flammable chemicals instead of an open
flame to prevent ignition.

Clamp
Clamp is a laboratory apparatus used to hold equipments like test tubes,
flasks, or burettes to prevent spillage.

Wire Gauze

Wire gauze is a flat mesh screen made of metal wires to support

containers during heating. It reduces the risk of breakage through
distributing heat evenly and preventing direct contact between the
container and flame.

Watch Glass
A watch glass is a concave, circular piece of glass used as a surface to
hold small amounts of solid or liquid substances.

Test Tube Holder

A Test tube holder is used to hold test tubes. It is used for holding a
test tube in place when the tube is hot or should not be touched.

Centrifuge
Centrifuges are used in various laboratories to separate fluids, gases, or
liquids based on density. In research and clinical laboratories,
centrifuges are often used for cell, organelle, virus, protein, and nucleic
acid purification.

Volumetric Flask

The volumetric flask is used for measuring accurate volumes of liquid

materials for laboratory experiments. They are favored when available
because they are more accurate than graduated cylinders and beakers,
which are other pieces of equipment that are used to measure liquids.
