Lesson Plan Grade 7 Complementary

The daily lesson log summarizes a 7th grade math class taught by Teacher Aji P. Campos on angle pairs. The objectives are for students to be able to identify and illustrate complementary and supplementary angle pairs, find complementary and supplementary angles, and accurately perform activities. To review the previous lesson on angle types, the teacher has students classify angles in different figures as acute, right, or obtuse. They then participate in a "Search Your Pair" activity where they find the pair whose angles total 90° or 180° to review complementary and supplementary angle pairs, which is the topic of the day's lesson.

Do you still have questions regarding our

previous lesson?

B. Establishing a purpose
for the Lesson Before we proceed to our lesson, let us first
have this activity. Do you want to have a
pair, or do you want to give a message to
your pair? This activity is called "Search
Your Pair." This activity is divided into two (The students will perform
groups, so based on your seating the said activity)
arrangement, this is group1, and this is group

measurement. Then I will give you two
minutes to write anything you want to give to (Let the student read the

that, after I say, "Search your Pair," you start
to find your pair, so for group 1, the pair that
you will search for is total of 90° and for
group 2, a total of 180°. If you already
searched for your pair, sit down and give (A few of the student will

their pair will be given a punishment.

Let us read first our objectives this morning,

be able to:
1. Identify and illustrate the different
kinds of angles pairs, complementary
and supplementary angles.
2. Find the complementary and
supplementary angles.
3. Perform Activities accurately.

The activity search your pair is related to our

lesson for today.

What will be our topic for today, class?

raise their hand.)

Angle Pairs;
Complementary and
Supplementary angles

B.Presenting Examples LET’S BEGIN IN ACTIVITY

The activity “Search Your Pair” is related to

our lesson for today which are
Complementary and Supplementary Angles. Let the student read the
definition of
Now, let us dig more into our topic for today, complementary angles
which is Complementary and Supplementary
Angles.

But first, let's define an angle pair.

Geometric relationships exist between two (Let the student read the
angles. These relationships can be used as definition of an angle pairs)
bases for classifying angle pairs. angle pairs
include adjacent angles, complementary
angles, supplementary angles, linear pairs,
and vertical angles.

In our previous activity, what was your

guess about the sum of complementary
angles?
It is group 1, which has a sum of 90° or
group 2, which has a sum of 180°
How about if you are in sum of 90°

Okay, very good class because the majority

of you have a good guess that a
complementary angle has a sum of 90°.

Now let’s define what is Complementary

Angles.
Complementary angles are two angles whose
measures have a sum of 90° Let’s see this
figure.
For example, if angle ADB 45°, then its
complement angle BDC would be
45°because 45° + 45° = 90°.

A
B

D
C

Now class in this figure, you can see that

m∠ADB + m∠BDC = 90°

What is the measure of ∠ADB?

The measure of ∠ADB is

45°, Sir.
Very Good! How about the measure of
∠BDC?

The measure of ∠BDC is

45°

Correct! So, we have, m∠ADB + m∠BDC =

90°
45° + 45° = 90° As you can see the sum of
two angles is 90°

Therefore, this is an example of a

complementary angle.

Is that clear class? Any questions?

Yes, (Mandy) what is your question?

Class, even without the given angle

measures, we can notice that the angles are
complementary if you see this symbol.
Yes sir.
No ,Sir.
Is this symbol familiar to you?
Where do you see this symbol already? None sir.

Very good, because the right-angle measures

are exactly 90°.

Therefore, if you have that symbol, which is Yes sir

like a square and is called the foot, the This symbol is we called
measure of angle is 90° and therefore the two complementary since the
angles are complementary angle. measure is 90°.

Now let’s have another example of a

complementary angle.
Class, what if the one angle measured is 60°
and this is a complementary angle? What is
the measure of the other angles?
Sir. I see that in the right
A angle.

B
60
D
C

Very good! So, we have,

60° + 30° = 90° Therefore, this is an example

of a complementary angle

The sum of the two angles is 90°. Therefore,

this is an example of a complementary angle.
Sir, the other angle measure
is 30°
Is that clear class? Any clarifications?
Again, when we can say that the two angles Solution: Let: x = the
are complementary angles. measure of an angle. 90 – x
= the measure of its
complement 90 − x = 2x
Excellent class!

Now, let’s find the measure of the 90 − x + x = 2x + x 90 = 3x

complement of an angle. 90/3 = 3x/3
30 = x
1.Example:
x = the measure of an angle
Find the measure of the complement of an is 30°
angle whose measure is 55°.
Let x = the measure of the complement of an 90 – x = the measure of its
angle. complement is 90 – 30 =
Hence, x + 55° = 90° 60°
x + 55° − 55 = 90° − 55
(Subtract 55 from both sides) x = 90° − 55 x
= 35° Yes, Sir. None , Sir
Checking…………. Sir, Complementary angles
are two angles whose
measures have a sum of
90°
Very Good!

Let’s just substitute the

value of x into this
equation .
x + 55° = 90°
35°+55°=90°
Discussing a new concept Now, Class, I want to challenge you. I will
practicing #1 be giving you a question and you will
answer.

The first 3 student who will get the correct

solution and answer have a prize.
Do you accept my challenge?

Are you ready?

I will be giving you 3 minutes to answer.

If you are already finished, just raise your

hand and I will be the one to come to you
and check your answer.

• The measure of the complement of an angle

is twice the measure of the angle. The measure of ∠ADB is
135°, Sir.
What is the measure of the angle?

The measure of ∠BDC is

The first 3 students are: (student 1, student 2,

student 3)

Very Good!

The first 3 students will be given additional

points for quiz #2.
Is that clear class, any Clarifications?

Now let’s proceed with the supplementary

angles. Let us begin by defining a
supplementary angle.

Supplementary angles are two angles whose

measures have a sum of 180°. Let’s see this
figure.

A D
C
Now class in this figure, you can see that
m∠ADB + m∠BDC = 180°

What is the measure of ∠ADB?

Very Good! How about the measure of Yes Sir.

∠BDC?
None Sir.

Correct! So, we have,

m∠ADB + m∠BDC = 180°

135° + 45° = 180°
Yes,Sir.
As you can see the sum of two angles is 180°
None, Sir
Therefore, this is an example of a
supplementary angle. Is that clear class? Supplementary angles are
two angles whose measures
Any questions? have a sum of 180°.

Now let’s have another example of a

supplementary angle.

Class, what if the one angle measured is 110° The measure of the other
and this is a supplementary angle? angle is 70°.

What is the measure of the other angles?

Very good! So, we have,

A D
C

m∠ADB + m∠BDC = 180° 70° + 110° =

180° Therefore, this is an example of a
supplementary angle.
The sum of the two angles is 180°.

Therefore, this is an example of a

supplementary angle.

Is that clear class?

Any clarifications?

Again, when we can say that the two angles

are supplementary angles.

Excellent class!
let’s find the measure of the supplement of
an angle.

F.Developing Mastery Find the measure of the supplement of an
angle whose measure is 156°.

Let x = the measure of the complement of an

angle.
Hence, ×+ 156° = 180°
x + 156° − 156 = 180° − 156 (Subtract 156
from both sides) = 180° − 156 x = 24

Let’s check if it is true that the measure of

the supplement of an angle 156° is 24°.
Solution: Let: x = the

x = the measure of its
supplement.
= 2(180° −x) + 30° = 360°
− + 30°
2 2 +2 = 360° − + 30° + 2
x + 2x = 360° + 30°
3x = 390°
3x/3 = 390°/3 = 130°

x = the measure of an
angle is 130° 180 – x = the
