SEPTEMBER, 2023
The documentary of Kara David in I-witness segment of GMA station entitled

“Kawayang Pangarap”. The documentary focuses on the life of Mang Joseph in

surviving the difficult job to provide the needs of his family. Cutting and hauling those

bamboo culms cannot suffice to pay their debt. The family of indigenous people belong

to the lower status of life wherein some of them struggling to provide their daily needs,

as their children is fully aware to the extreme poverty, despite of that their children

persevere to excel in their education to ease their poverty in the future.

I believed that poverty is not relevant only on how an individual persevere to be

successful and how they work for their future. Every citizen in the society constantly aim

to have sustainable and better life but not all of us given the same opportunity. When we

are poor it doesn’t mean that we did not give our best to make our life to be better but

sometimes we are just not able to assess those opportunities or maybe the governance

of administration in the country had flaws. In the case of Mang Joseph, extreme poverty

in the Philippines is not rare. And it is such a poignant to witness how those people on

that social status suffer and strongly fighting the difficulties in life.

Those children of Mang Joseph are already expose to the hardships in helping their

father to earn their living income. In their poor age, they should be not doing that

responsibility. They should be able to find themselves, focusing on their study and

having time for themselves. Despite of that they are able to help their father during

summer and weekends and manage to do better performance in their academic.

In their social status, it is clear that their father Cannot provide their needs in education

and even they do not have enough school supplies to support their education. But these

inspiring children tend to look at the silver lining on their situation and embrace their

difficulties with strong personality and optimism to finish their education. Behind all

those barriers and discomfort they encounter they manage to continue the life they and

working it to be better. These anecdotes are really worth to be publish and aired for

some audience to be inspired and motivate.

The document of Kara David is really significant and this can motivate those students

who thinks they are really poor because they can’t afford something they want. All of us,

the student in 21st century should learn that we should be contented on what we have to

finish our education and we will never know how some individual in this world suffering

from scarcity of something badly needs.
