and black.
-the Mandaya are found throughout Davao Oriental and Davao del Norte,
Mindanao. Their name denotes the “first people upstream” and derived from
man “first” and daya “upstream or upper portion of a river.”
Malong
-is a traditional Filipino tube skirt that is made of hand-woven or machine
made multicoloured cotton cloth. It is attractive because of its bright colours
and various designs like okir.
Islamic
-the Islamic of Mindanao traditions were first introduced to the Malays of the
Southern Philippines in the 14th century.
-they are sometimes called “people of the current.” this is because many of
them live in near bodies of water.
Sarimanok
-it is a legendary bird of the Maranao. It comes from the word “sari” which
means cloth and “manok” which means chicken. A symbol of good fortune.
Okir
-it refers to traditional and unique carving. Its name originated from old
Malayan word which means carve or “ukit.”

ARCHITECTURE
Torogan
-it is the ancestral house of the upper-class Maranao. It is the dwelling place
of the datu along with his wives and children
The Panolog
-is a carved ing-like ornament of a Torogan flaring out from the beams in the
front of the house and is adorned with okir motif.
Bajau House
-the bajau house, are the nomads of the sulu sea. Main source of livelihood is
fishing and hunting, thus, most of them live in boat houses or houses on stilts
around the sulu archipelago.

Balanghai
-also known as balangay or butuan boat, is a large wooden boat used by the
pre-colonial filipinos for trade or migration.
Vinta
-muslim history and culture. These boats are colourful, small and not meant to
be used for long ocean travel. They are used for livelihood activities.
