WHAT IS CITRIX AND WHAT ARE ITS MAJOR COMPONENTS?

(or)

IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO CITRIX, THEN DEFINITELY YOU’VE TO READ THIS

Citrix provides a virtualization platform, wherein multiple user systems can be connected
remotely and hence the necessary activities between the users (irrespective of their
geographical location), can be carried out in a streamlined manner.

Citrix provides a secure digital workspace platform, which connects all the users, systems,
applications (even remotely if need be required) and carry on the technical work in a
justifiable and swift manner.

Another key aspect is that Citrix can be perfectly synchronized with complex hybrid and
multi-cloud environment, making it cloud-friendly as well. A Citrix cloud environment
provides an easy-to-use, flexible and fastest approach towards managing digital workspaces.

At a reasonable cost andan easy deployment facility coupled with effective technical
functionalities, it becomes quite obvious to go Citrix Cloud and make your organization’s IT
Infrastructure and framework more productive.

THERE ARE THREE IMPORTANT COMPONENTS OF CITRIX AS FOLLOWS:

1. XenApp:

Citrix XenApp is an exclusive application virtualization software. Basically, Windows

application can be accessed either remotely or otherwise via individual devices and a shared
server. XenApp is driven by FlexCast Management Architecture (FMA), which is a key
component of Citrix virtualization products. The earlier version was named as WinFrame.

The benefit that can be derived is it delivers individual applications to the specific target
devices. XenApp is also used in Unison with XenDesktop in order to deliver varied
applications in a Desktop environment.

XenApp features include user self-storage, mobile touchscreen optimization and user
experience enhancements. XenApp is used to tactically integrate and optimize cloud
technologies, Software-as-a-service (SaaS) and networking hardware virtualization.

Through XenApp you can easily install and configure various applications on Servers and
then access these very applications without even necessarily installing on Client’s devices.
The entire application processing is carried out by the XenServer. Now, what we have to also
understand is that the entire Citrix Infrastructure is carried out through a process called
Independent Computing Architecture.
A Citrix XenApp framework consists of three significant parts:

1. Multiser Operating System: A workable combination of MS Windows Server and Remote

Desktop Sessions host allows multiple users to easily access the server in an independent
manner. These multiple users based upon their convenience can easily connect with session
based desktops or Individual Citrix XenApp applications.

2. XenApp Software: XenApp has the flexibility to extend Remote Desktop services
applications and desktops to the concerned client devices through the HDX Protocol. HDX
Protocol has its own significant benefits such as remote display capabilities, USB and
multimedia redirection and many such capabilities, based upon the necessity of client
devices.

3. Client Devices: Citrix XenApp based applications can be accessed on devices using a
specific software known as Citrix Receiver.Citrix Receiver is able to handle large forms of
devices and hence streamline the entire process.

2. XenDesktop:

Citrix XenDesktop is an exclusive desktop virtualization software. Using XenDesktop, multiple

users can run windows desktops that are basically installed at a centralizedlocation.
XenDesktop provides Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) platformthis is a great source for
employees who are located remotely, but have to work in a distributed desktop
environment.

XenDesktop precisely provides the flexibility to multiple users, so that they can easily access
Windows desktop that are running on datacenter or even on Public and private cloud
environment.

As XenDesktop runs from a centralized location, there will be no loss of data security as
such. The reason beingnone of the data is stored in client devices, rather is stored in a
centralized datacenter, which in turn provides IT/data Security.

Thin Client can be considered as an important aspect of XenDesktop environment. In this

scenario, a user can connect to a local terminal and access the desktop with a network
connection, which also includes thin client terminals. Thin Clients can be used depending
upon specific needs, otherwise there is no need to use it.

Some of the main components of XenDesktop are:

1. Delivery controller:The role of Delivery controller is to store settings and configuration

related information in the Website configuration database. Furthermore, Administrators can
also use Citrix Studio or Citrix Director to easily manage the Settings part.

2. StoreFront:Storefront basically provides a perfect pathway to access Virtual desktops and

applications. Once the Storefront portal is properly accessed and authentication has been
received, the user will be provided with all the information pertaining to desktops and
applications.

3. Provisioning: When it comes to provisioning services, desktops can be provisioned and

re-provisioned in a real-time environment. Provisioning forms an important characteristic
ofXenDesktop, wherein NetBoot is being applied to virtual machines, while at the same time
simplifying large-scale deployment and master image management.

3. XenServer:

XenServer is an exclusive Server virtualization software. XenServer comes in two versions and
those are Standard and Enterprise.XenServer is a Hypervisor platform, which basically helps
in enabling creation, monitoring and maintenance of Virtualized Server infrastructure.Citrix
XenServer supports a few server operating systems, and the most commonly used are Linux
and Windows server.

As Citrix XenServer specializes in Server virtualization and monitoring services, it has

anessential role in the case of monitoring service. When it comes to the monitoring
environment,XenServer manages the allocation of resources pertaining to physical server
computing and hence administers their performance as well.

In fact, XenServer is also used in a Cloud environment, as it is used in integrating the entire
Cloud server Infrastructure through a process-oriented framework. Increased performance,
scalability, flexibility are some of the benefits of installing XenServer in a Cloud environment.

This particular seamless integration of XenServer with Cloud provides customers an easy-to-
use and secure platform to work in a cloud environment.

XenServer Benefits:

1. Cloud-friendly: XenServer is used with some of the largest clouds. XenServer is integrated
directly with Citrix Cloud platform and Apache CloudStack. This entire platform is built on an
open androbust Cloud architecture.

2. Open Source: It is a virtualization software with a strong community of users. This will in
turn help in innovation, richness infeatureand also third-party application.

Another key feature of XenServer is its ability to virtualize across Servers. Even the security
system of XenServer is flawless, as it has Direct Inspect API’s which allows users, third-party
vendors to secure their OS from malwares, viruses that will otherwise prove to be harmful.
