The 5S methodology is a set of Japanese terms focused on workplace organization and

efficiency. The 5S stands for:

Seiri (Sort): This involves separating necessary items from unnecessary ones and
removing the latter from the workspace. It's about decluttering and ensuring that only
essential items are kept in the work area.

Seiton (Set in Order): After sorting, the next step is to organize and arrange the
necessary items in a neat and efficient manner. This helps in easy retrieval and promotes a
more organized and efficient workflow.

Seiso (Shine): This step involves cleaning and inspecting the workplace regularly.
Keeping the workplace clean not only improves the overall working environment but also
helps identify and address issues promptly.

Seiketsu (Standardize): Standardizing involves establishing consistent work practices and

procedures. This ensures that the 5S principles are maintained over time, and everyone
follows the same standardized procedures for organization and cleanliness.

Shitsuke (Sustain): Sustain is about maintaining and continually improving the

established practices. It involves creating a culture of continuous improvement and
ensuring that the 5S principles are ingrained in the organization's daily operations.

The 5S methodology is often used as a foundational tool in Lean manufacturing and other
improvement strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and create a more productive
and organized work environment.

Materials and Tools:
1. Twisted Pair Cable (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.)
2. RJ45 Connectors (compatible with the cable type)
3. Crimping Tool
4. Cable Stripper
5. Cable Tester (optional but recommended)

Procedure:

1. Prepare the Cable:

- Use a cable stripper to carefully strip about 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 cm) of the outer
jacket from the end of the twisted pair cable.
- Untwist the individual pairs and arrange them according to the T568B or T568A wiring
standard (these are the two common wiring standards for Ethernet cables).

2. Trim and Straighten Wires:

- Trim any excess length from the individual wires so that they are uniform in length.
- Use a flat surface or your fingers to straighten the wires in the correct order.

3. Insert Wires into Connector:

- Carefully insert the prepared wires into the RJ45 connector, making sure each wire
goes into the correct slot according to the chosen wiring standard.
- Ensure that the wires reach the end of the connector.

4. Check Alignment:
- Confirm that the wires are properly aligned and seated within the connector. The order
should match the chosen wiring standard.

5. Crimp the Connector:

- Place the connector into the crimping tool.
- Squeeze the crimping tool firmly to crimp the connector onto the cable. This action
secures the wires in place.

6. Repeat for the Other End:

- Repeat the above steps to prepare and crimp the other end of the cable.

7. Test the Cable:

- If you have a cable tester, use it to check the continuity and correctness of the
connections on both ends of the cable. This step is essential to ensure that the cable is
properly wired.

Once tested and confirmed, your Ethernet cable is ready for use. Creating Ethernet cables
allows you to customize the length and configuration based on your specific networking
needs.

HARDWARE TOOL
 Electrostatic discharge (ESD) tools
 Hand tools
 Cleaning tools
 Diagnostic tools

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) is the sudden flow of electricity between two

electrically charged objects caused by contact or an electrical short circuit. This
discharge can result in the transfer of a high amount of energy in a very short
duration.

1. Anti- static wrist strap

 Used to prevent ESD damage to computer equipment.
2. Anti- static mat
 Used to stand on or place hardware on to prevent static electricity
from building up.

Hand tools is a device for performing work on a material or a physical system

using only hands.

1. Flat head screwdriver

 Used to loosen or tighten slotted screws
2. Philips head screwdriver
 Used to loosen or tighten crosshead screws.
3. Torx screwdriver
 Used to loosen or tighten screws that have a star- like depression on
the top, a feature that is mainly found on laptops
4. Hex screwdriver
 Sometimes called a nut driver, is used to tighten nuts in the same
way that a screwdriver tightens screws.
5. Needle nose pliers
 Used to hold small parts.
6. Wire cutter
 Used to strip and cut wires.
7. Tweezers
 Used to manipulate small parts
8. Part retriever
 Used to retrieve small parts from a location that is too small for your
hand to fit.
9. Flashlight
 Used to light up areas that you cannot see well.

Cleaning tools to maintain the cleanliness or tidiness of an equipment.

1. Lint- free cloth

 Used to clean different computer computers without scratching or
leaving debris.
2. Compressed air
 Used to blow away dust and debris from different computer parts
without touching the components.
3. Cable ties
 Used to bundle cables neatly inside and outside of a computer.
4. Parts organizer
 Used to hold screws, jumpers, fasteners and other small parts and
prevents them from getting mixed together.

Diagnostic tools are instruments, devices, or software applications designed to

identify, analyze, and troubleshoot problems or issues within a system, device,
network, or process.

1. Multimeter
 Used to test the integrity of circuits and the quality of electricity in
computer components.
2. Loopback adapter
 Used to test the functionality of computer ports.

Twisted pair, coaxial cables and fiber optic cable are the three major networking
cable types in the communicating systems. They have different cable structions,
speed, bandwidth, and applications.

Twisted Pair
 A type of cable made by putting two separate insulated wires together in a
twisted pattern and running them parallel to each other.
Coaxial cable
 A type of copper cable specially built with metallic shield and other
components engineered to block signal interference.
Fiber- optic cable
 A hair- like flexible and transparent fiber which is used for the transmission
of data signals over large distances with a higher speed.

1. Twisted pair
 Shielded twisted pair - A special kind of copper telephone and local
area network (LAN) wiring used in some business installations.
 Unshielded twisted pair - A ubiquitous type of copper cabling used
in telephone wiring and local area networks (LANs).
2. Coaxial cable
 Thinnet - Looks like a regular tv cable, It is about ¼ inch in diameter
and is very flexible and easy to work with.
 Thicknet - Is about ½ inch in diameter and not very flexible.
3. Fiber optic cable - A fiber optic cable is a type of cable that transmits data
using pulses of light signals through thin strands of glass or plastic fibers.
These cables offer high bandwidth and are widely used for long-distance
data transmission, telecommunications, internet services, and various
applications where high-speed, reliable data transfer is essential.
