METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF DUCTED SPLIT ACS

Purpose:
Purpose of this method statement is to provide maximum safety to the man and machine, utilize
resources and extend utmost life of equipment.
Steps of Installation:
Following are the steps of installation of outdoor unit of split AC.
1. Select a place where at least 60mm of open space is available from all four sides and obstacle
free for good air flow.
2. Don’t locate the air conditioner’s outdoor unit in a place with an oily ambient.
3. Mounting should be done with through bolt or drop in anchor bolt for steady fixing and upstand
must be strong and level enough to support the weight of the outdoor unit with sufficient
rigidity to prevent vibration.
4. Anti-vibration pad should be placed beneath the outdoor unit.
5. Excessive distance should be avoided between outdoor and indoor unit as far as practicable
(Max 15m).
6. Excessive height should be avoided between outdoor and indoor unit as far as practicable (Max
10m).
7. Insulate the attached urethane foam on the pipes between the outdoor and indoor unit.
8. Avoid any kinking of connecting pipes between outdoor and indoor unit.

Following are the steps of installation of indoor unit of split AC.

Installation of Supports for indoor unit

1. Install the threaded rode support on roof or any metal beams which is capable of withstanding
load
2. Be sure to leave the clearance spaces
3. Connect adequate dampers to prevent vibration of the unit

Making the wall penetration for the interconnecting piping

1. Drill a hole at a slope so that the outside end is lower (5 -10mm) than the inside end to ensure
good drainage.
2. Cut the wall sleeve to match the wall thickness and to pass the pipe through the hole.
3. If side or bottom piping chosen then removes the knock-out in the unit and passes the pipe
through the wall.
4. The pipes should slope downward to ensure good drainage.

Indoor unit wiring

1. Open the control panel from the Unit and locate terminals
2. Connect the electrical connection cord with the screws to the terminal block of the indoor unit.
3. Reinstall the terminal block cover with the screws after wiring.
4. Fir the insert grille to the latch of the frame grille.
5. Connect the thermostat to the unit with provided cable
6. Install the thermostat at required position.

Forming the drain hose and refrigerant piping

1. Draw the drain hose either of the side.

2. Tie the refrigerant pipe, drain hose and the electrical connection cord together.
3. Form the refrigerant piping in the required direction, and bind the drain hose and the electrical
connection cord together with vinyl tape. The drain hose should be at bottom.

Installation of indoor unit body to the hanging threaded rode support

1. Hang the unit to the threaded rode and lock the same temporarily using bolts
2. Align the ducted indoor using spirit level
3. Connect the suction and discharge pipe using the flare joints to the unit
4. Connect the drain line to the unit with proper slope
5. Firmly tight the unit to the rode with adequate fittings

Connecting ducts
1. Prefabricated duct is connected to the unit by means of clips
2. Both supply air and return air ducts are connected to the units with proper threaded rode
support
3. Provision for return air filter to be provided between unit and return duct
4. Ducts ends are connected to supply and return grills respectively

Connecting the piping

1. Remove the indoor pipe flare nut and check that there is no debris inside.
2. Align the center of the flare surface, and tighten the indoor pipe union and connection pipe flare
nut with a torque wrench or double ended wrench.

3. While aligning the center of the flare surface, tighten the nut by hand, hold the union side with a
wrench and tighten the nut according to the specified tightening torque with a torque wrench.
4. Repeat the procedure for flaring the tube to connect to the outdoor unit.
5. Tighten the flare nut of the connection pipe at the outdoor unit valve.

Steps of testing and commissioning:

Air purge

1. For air purge evacuate the air in the connecting pipe and indoor unit by using vacuum pump.
2. Connect the gauge manifold.
3. Open the low pressure valve and close the high pressure valve of the gauge manifold
completely.
4. Operate the vacuum pump during at least 20 minutes until the pressure reaches -101kpa.
5. Close the low pressure valve of the gauge manifold and stop the vacuum pump operation.
6. Open both the two-way and three-way valve completely.
7. Close both the two- way and three-way valve caps completely.
8. Remove the gauge manifold and vacuum pump.
9. Reinstall the valve caps and service port nuts.

Gas leak check

1. After connecting the pipe, check the joints for gas leakage with gas leak detector or soapy water.
2. Pressurize the system up to 500PSI for 24 hours and observed for any pressure drop
3. If no pressure drops found will go for vacuuming the system for 60 Min until it reaches -15 PSI
4. Remove the vacuum and open the refrigerant gas
5. Commissioning the unit for operation

Finishing

1. Wrap the pipe joints with the pipe insulation and fasten it with vinyl tape.
2. Fill the gap between the inside of wall sleeve and the pipe with a sealer so that rain and wind
does not enter.
