About Aurangabad

Aurangabad once known as Khadki or Fatenagar, is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is
located along the Kaum River. Other than being a major tourist hub, considering its proximity to the
famous Ajanta and Ellora caves, you may know as one of the cities in Maharashtra that is expanding
at a rapid pace and is emerging as a major industrial centre.

Places to visit in Aurangabad

1. Bibi Ka Maqbara

Bibi Ka Maqbara, a tomb built in the Mughal era, is one of the best places to visit in Kanpur.
Dilras Banu Begum was the consort this monument was built for by the Mughal emperor
Aurangzeb. Bibi Ka Maqbara is an excellent place to visit for those interested in learning
about the architectural style of the Mughal era. It is often called the Taj of the Deccan because
of its similarity to the Taj Mahal.

2. Aurangabad caves

Aurangabad caves include 12 Buddhist shrines carved in soft basalt rock. They were built
around the sixth and eighth centuries. The shrines are built atop a hill from where you may
enjoy the city's expensive vistas.

3. Ajanta and Ellora Caves

Ajanta and Ellora caves, which date back to the second century, are the most popular
attraction in Aurangabad. These caverns which have been recognised by UNESCO as a
World Heritage Site since 1983,form the rock-cut complex and are one of the largest of such
complexes worldwide. The Ajanta and Ellora caves are located at two separate sites. The
Ajanta caves include about 30 Buddhist caves and are approximately 100 km from
Aurangabad. Ellora caves include about 100 caves, and these caves are approximately 32 km
away from Aurangabad. Of the 100 caves, only 34 are accessible to the public.

Aurangabad is sometimes referred to as a "City of Bridges" because it has more than 52 gates that
date back to the medieval era. It has been a significant city in terms of the history of the region and
was named by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. It used to be an epicenter for intensive socio-political
activity and a major center for education during that time and It also served as headquarters for
several religious sects. Considering the popularity of the city and the historical sites they include, you

About Kanpur

Kanpur was established by the rulers of the Chandela dynasty between the 10th and 13th centuries. A
significant industrial and cultural centre, this city was ruled by several emperors and dynasties at
different periods. Kanpur existed as a little gem village until the first part of the 18th century.
However, after Shuja-ud-doula, Nawab of Awadh was overthrown by the British in May 1765,
Kanpur was converted into a cantonment town, given its strategic location, consequently significantly
increasing its importance. Now, luckily, most of the population in Kanpur is Hindu.

Kanpur, located on the banks of river Ganga, a gem in Uttar Pradesh which once was a famous British
cantonment town is the city comprises of beautiful historical buildings with intricate architectural
details. Kanpur is home to several tanneries, and it is renowned for its leather goods and cotton
textiles. The city also has several major temples, churches, and mosques.

Today, Aurangabad is one of the state's largest industrialized areas and is an important hub for
education. The town was formerly known as the “Manchester of India” because of its well-developed
cotton industry.

Places to Visit in Kanpur

1. Nana Rao Park

Nana Rao Park, one of Kanpur's most popular tourist destinations, is located nearby Phool
Bagh. It was built in honour of the freedom fighter Nana Sahib. It also has monuments built in
memory of other freedom fighters who significantly contributed to the struggle for India’s
independence.

2. J.K. Temple

J.K. Temple is also called the Radhakrishna Temple. It’s renowned for its distinctive
architecture, which is an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary elements. Visiting
this temple should be at the top of your list of things to do in Kanpur; particularly in August
when their grounds are exquisitely decorated for the celebration of Christmas.

3. Kanpur zoo

The Kanpur Zoological Park, popularly known as "Allen Forest Zoo," was established in
1974 and is one of the country’s oldest zoological parks. This zoo is also Kanpur's biggest
place in terms of greenery as it has been built in a natural setting.

4. Moti Jheel

Moti Jheel is encircled by Moti Park. They were built during the colonial era. It is a
recreational spot in the lap of nature, making this an ideal location for family outings and
picnics.
