1. Based from your understanding of the topics discussed, define the word “GOOD.”
- “Good” is a term that carries a broad range of interpretations, often dependent on the context in
which it is used. In a moral sense, “good” refers to actions, thoughts, or behaviors that are
considered ethical, virtuous, or beneficial to others. In a quality context, “good” implies a high
standard or excellence, like a good meal or a good book. When used to describe health or wellbeing,
“good” can mean free from illness or discomfort. It can also denote approval or satisfaction, as in
receiving good news. In a quantitative sense, it can mean a significant amount or degree, such as a
good amount of time. Lastly, in a relational context, “good” can express a positive or harmonious
relationship between people or things.
- Unreflective consumption, or overconsumption, can significantly impact human life in various ways.
It can lead to feelings of social discontent and anxiety as people continuously strive to maintain their
social status, often leaving them unsatisfied even with lifestyle upgrades. This type of consumption
can also induce a change of preferences, altering the motivational forces that drive us. It impacts not
only the individual but also the societal context, transforming the structure of consumption
expenditures. Furthermore, overconsumption is one of the most significant human practices
gradually destroying the environment, contributing to issues like climate change and resource
depletion. It supports a capitalist economy but often at the expense of quality of life and planetary
wellbeing. Therefore, unreflective consumption can have profound psychological, societal, and
environmental effects.
