Ballast Line Testing procedure

(To be carried out prior Ballasting/ Deballasting operations)

Ballast Line no. 1


1. Start Hydraulic Pump
2. Open Ballast Sea Chest – 147
3. Open WBP 1 suction 144
4. Open 141
5. Ensure 143 is shut
6. Start WBP 1
7. Open Discharge Valve – 139
8. Pressurise the line to 5.0 Kg/cm2.
9. Close Discharge Valve – 139
10. Stop WBP 1
11. Close Ballast Sea Chest – 147
12. Open Valve 143
13. Note the Discharge pressure.
14. Watch for any pressure drop for 15 mins.
15. If no drop in pressure noted, Ballast line integrity is intact.
16. Release the pressure in the line by opening Discharge Valve – 139 and Ballast
High Overboard – 171

Ballast Line no. 2


1. Start Hydraulic Pump
2. Open Ballast Sea Chest – 147
3. Open WBP 2 suction 146
4. Open 142
5. Ensure 145 is shut
6. Start WBP 2
7. Open Discharge valve – 140
8. Pressurise the line to 5.0 Kg/cm2
9. Close Discharge Valve – 140
10. Stop WBP 2
11. Close Ballast Sea Chest – 147
12. Open Valve 145
13. Note the Discharge pressure.
14. Watch for any pressure drop for 15 mins.
15. If no drop in pressure noted, Ballast line integrity is intact.
16. Release the pressure in the line by opening Discharge Valve – 140 and Ballast
High Overboard – 171
