Assume a small oil field, named XYZ, which was recently been discovered in the
southern part of the country. Oil will be produced for the first five years with two
producers. In order to enhance the recovery , the company is considering a five
years water injection project for the field.
As a reservoir engineer, you have been assigned to conduct a detailed reservoir
engineering study for the prospect of water injection project.
Available geological, petrophysical , PVT and reservoir engineering data are below
(consider Net to Gross (NTG) ) is 1):
1. Geological information:
Layers Thickness
ft
Layer 1 5
Layer 2 4
Layer 3 6
Layer 4 8
Layer 5 5
1
WOC- 7230 ft
Fault- a leaky fault (50%) , as shown below
Layer 1 5 10 .1
Layer 2 4 50 0.12
Layer 3 6 2 0.090
Layer 4 8 60 0.18
Layer 5 10 .11
2
Model Gas relative permeability in presence of Oil Table
Maximum Oil relative permeability in presence of Gas 0.913977
3
3. PVT- Gas Compressibility Factor (Z) At Datum.
Fluid sample was collected during a brief production test of the reservoir.
4
Location of injector: any suitable location.
Completion: perforation along the whole length
Run the model for 10 years (from beginning).
Run3- Water flood 2:
Completion of the producer: perforation along the first three layers
Completion of the injector: perforation along the last two layers
Run4- Water flood 3:
Use the Water flood 1 model
Change the viscosity of oil from 0.5 to 0.9 cp.
Run the model.
5. Result analysis
i. Calculate mobility ratio of each of the cases.
ii. What will be the total recovery factor of the reservoir, if the
production is continued for 10 years, with and without water
injection?
Run1-Base case
Run2-Water flood1
Run3-Water flood 2
5
Run4-Water flood 3
Run5-Water flood 4
Compare:
1. Field pressure data
2. Recovery in 10 years
3. Oil, gas and water production
6. Comments, conclusion
