1.FUNCTIONS OF SPORTS EVENTS MANAGEMENT


Planning:- Planning is the primary function of management in which
decisions are take in advance what to do, how to do, and by whom it to be done.
Organizing:- This includes distributing resources and organizing
Personnel in order to achieve the goals established in the planning function.

Staffing:- This refers to identifying key staff positions, and to


ensuring that the proper talent is serving that specific job duty in order to achieve the
aims and objectives of an organization.

Directing:- Directing function of management is concerned with instructing, guiding,


inspiring and motivating the employees in the organization so that their result in
achievement of organizational goal.

Controlling:- Controlling refers to all the processes that leaders create to monitor
success.
- It refers to comparing the actual performance with the planned performance.
2.VARIOUS COMMITTEES
1. Publicity Committee:-
• Announces the date, time, venues and sports events, provides advance information to
the institutions (T.V., Radio, Newspapers, Poster etc)
• Its main Responsibility is to advertise sports events.

2. Transportation Committee:-
• This committee is responsible for providing the facilities regarding transportation of
various teams to the venue of sports events.
• Its main duty is to make necessary arrangements for transportation.

3. Boarding and Lodging Committee:-


• Boarding and Lodging committee is responsible for making necessary arrangements
for providing accommodation and serving meals to the sportspersons and officials.
• Other name of boarding and lodging committee is "Food and Accommodation
Committee".
4. Decoration and Ceremony Committee:-
• Decoration and ceremony committee is responsible for the decoration of sports arena
or stadium.
• It is also responsible for making necessary arrangements for the opening ceremony,
victory ceremony and closing ceremony of the games/sports meet.
• This committee also makes arrangements for Trophies, medals and certificates.

5. Grounds and Equipment Committee:-


• This committee is responsible for preparing the grounds or laying out the track and
field.
• It also makes necessary arrangements of equipment related to the game.

6. Committee for Refreshments and Entertainment:-


• This committee takes charge of supplying refreshments and drinks to guests, officials,
competitors etc.
• It also makes some arrangements for entertainment programs during the opening
ceremony and closing ceremony of the sports events.
7. Reception Committee:-
• The members of this committee are responsible for welcoming the chief guests,
Players, officials and Spectators.

8. Technical Committee:-
• This committee is responsible for the technical conduct.
• This committee selects various officials such as referee's, judges, starters, umpires,
time keepers etc.

9. Protest Committee:-
• This committee protest against a judgement, the members of this committee decide
about it.
10. Finance Committee:-
• This committee is related to financial management.
• It prepares the budget and maintains the account of income and expenditure.

11. First Aid Committee:-


• First Aid Committee is headed by a well-qualified doctor.
• This committee provides first aid to the injured athlete or sportsperson immediately.

PRE, DURING AND POST TOURNAMENT RESPONSIBILITIES OF


COMMITTEES

Pre-Tournament Responsibilities
• Prepare the budget of the sports event.
• Prepare the schedule of the sports event i.e., dates and venue of the sports event.
• Form the various committee for organizing sports event.
• To arrange prizes and certificates for winners.
• To make necessary arrangement regarding boarding and lodging of sports person and
officials.

During Tournament Responsibilities


• To maintain proper discipline.
• To prepare proper scoresheet for record.
• To provide and update information to the electronic and print media.
• To provide First Aid facilities to the injured athletes/sportspersons.
• To check the arrangement of refreshments to players and officials.

Post Tournament Responsibilities


• To give away the prizes and certificates to the winners.
• To provide detailed results and other necessary information to the media.
• To make the payments to the officials and other concerned persons.
• To prepare reports related to the expenditure of the tournament.

4.INTRAMURAL TOURNAMENTS
Meaning
• The word 'Intramural' is derived from the Latin words 'Intra' means 'within' and
'Mural' means 'wall'
• It means that the activities which are performed within the walls or within the
campus of an institution are called 'intramural.
• These activities are organized only for the students of a school or an institution. No
student of other schools can participate in these activities. Example - Sports Day

Significance/importance of intramural tournaments


• They provide ample opportunities to the students to participate in games and sports.
• They are also essential for developing leadership qualities among the students.
• Intramural's are significant for physical, mental, emotional and social development
of students.
• Intramural's provide maximum recreation to the students.

Objectives of intramural tournaments


(i) To develop the Feeling of Sportsmanship & Cooperation
(ii) To provide opportunity to Develop personality
(iii) To develop Leadership Qualities among students
(iv) To provide Recreation & opportunity to learn a variety of games and Skills

EXTRAMURAL TOURNAMENTS
Meaning
• The word 'Extramural' is derived from the Latin words 'Extra' means 'outside' and
'Mural' means 'wall'
• It means that the activities, which are performed outside the walls of an institution or
a school.
• It points towards the activities that are organized by an institution or school and also
the students of two or more schools participate in them
• In fact, in extramural competitions, the students of other schools also participate in
sports-related activities. Example - CBSE Cluster

Significance/importance of Extramural tournaments


• Provide Opportunities to Schools to Show their Sports Capabilities.
• Enhance the Standard of Sports Performance.
• Plan and Implement the Programs of Physical Education More Effective.
• Improve the Opportunities to Participate in Sports.

Objectives of Extramural tournaments


(i) To develop the Feeling of Sportsmanship & Fraternity.
(ii) To Broaden the Base of Sports.
(iii) To develop Leadership Qualities among students.
(iv) To provide Knowledge of New Rules and Advanced Techniques.

5.COMMUNITY SPORTS PROGRAM


• Community sports program are such program of sports, which are not usually related
to competitions.
• These sports program have various objectives such as creating awareness among
people regarding Unity, health and diseases like AIDS, Swine flu etc.

(i) Sports Day


 Generally, sports day is organized by each and every school.
 Various sports activities in which physical and recreational activities are included.
 These activities are vital for children.
 Sports day is organized for all-round development of children.
 By participating in these activities, students develop leadership qualities and
social qualities like honesty, Friendship etc.

(ii) Health Runs


 Health runs are organized by the health department, sports department or social
organization's.
 purpose is to ameliorate the standard of health in a country along with raising
funds for charity.
 Health run is a great physical activity that offers significant Health benefits.
 There is no age limit and fixed distance for running.

(iii) Run for Fun


 objective to spread the message of remaining healthy and fit.
 organized motivate people to exercise regularly and stay healthy.
 Similar to the health Runs.
 Generally it's organized to raise funds for a charity.
(iv) Run for a Specific Cause
 Run for a specific cause is the Run which is related to a good and noble cause.
 It can be organized for various categories of participants.
 Its main purpose is to raise funds for specific cause but the cause should be noble.
 Most of the social non-profit organization's organize marathon races or runs for
various noble causes as helping the patients of cancer, mentally and physically
challenged people and people suffering from arthritis, AIDS, leukemia and so on.
