Meaning : Planning is the process of putting thoughts together and organising activities required to
achieve a desired goal.
Objectives of planning:
1. To reduce unnecessary pressure of immediacy
2. To maintain a good control over all the activities
3. To facilitate proper coordination
4. To reduce the chances of mistakes
5. To increase efficiency
6. To enhance creativity
7. To enhance sports performance

Defination: Tournament is a series of sports in which one team finally wins among many different
teams
Importance
Types of tournaments
Advantages :
• less expensive
• less time taking
• lesser number of officials required
• imporves the quality of sport as a team gives its best to win
Disadvantages:
• chances that good teams might get eliminated
• more chances of weak teams reaching the final round
• Spectators might loose intrest if weak teams reach finals
2. League or round robin tournament: Each team plays every other team at least once
• Single league tournament : Teams plays another team once n(n-1)/2
• Double leauge tournament: Teams play another team twice n(n-1)
Advantages:
• only deserving teams gain victory
• Every teams gets max opportunities
• sport can be made popular due to max number of games
• Sports officials can choose winner efficeintly
• a team need not wait against the other team for playing a match
• ample of opprtunities are there for players to improve thier performance
• The spectators get good number of games to watch
Disadvantages:
• More time
• More money
• Teams coming from far face more problems and more time and money is taken
• More number of officials required
• Moral of most teams becomes low due to continous defeats and are unable to perform well
3. Combination tournament
Knockout
Number of rounds in a knock out tournament : Taken wrt to the next highest power of 2
If there are many teams, halfes are again divided into two with adding extra teams first in 1st
quarter, 3rd, 2nd and finally 4th.
Seeding: Seeding is given to those teams who r runner ups from last tournament.
Special seeding : In this kind of seeding, players are brought stright away to quaterfinals
Consolation tournament
Second type: Teams defeated in all the rounds are given an additional opportunity to take part in the
competition
Seeding method
Strong teams are selected to keep them at appropriate place in the fixture. For this the organisers
should be aware of the previous performance of the teams.
Cyclic Method: Team number 1 is fixed on the top of the right hand side and then move other team
number in asecnding order.
If the team number is odd a bye is added to the top right corner and the same procedure continues
