Important Information
Warranty
The Plotter is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of
one year from the date of shipment, as evidenced by receipts or other documentation.
Surf International Corporation will, at its option, repair or replace equipment that
proves to be defective during the warranty period. This warranty includes parts and
labor.

The media on which you receive Surf International software are warranted not to fail
to execute programming instructions, due to defects in materials and workmanship, for
a period of 90 days from date of shipment, as evidenced by receipts or other
documentation. Surf International will, at its option, repair or replace software media
that do not execute programming instructions if Surf International receives notice of
such defects during the warranty period.

Surf International does not warrant that the operation of the software shall be
uninterrupted or error free.

A Return Material Authorization (RMA) number must be obtained from the factory
and clearly marked on the outside of the package before any equipment will be
accepted for warranty work. Surf International will not pay the shipping costs of
returning to the owner parts which are covered by warranty.

Surf International believes that the information in this document is accurate. The
document has been carefully reviewed for technical accuracy. In the event that
technical or typographical errors exist, Surf International reserves the right to make
changes to subsequent editions of this document without prior notice to holders of this
edition. The reader should consult Surf International if errors are suspected. In no

About the Inkjet Printer

The high speed Inkjet printer is automated numerical control equipment specially
designed for printing patterns of garment/case/handbag industry. It adopts a self-
developed embedded numerical control system with high stability and efficiency. It
supports HP-GL and GP-GL format. This printer can be seamlessly connected with
third-party CAD software, and its operation is simple and easy-to-learn. The
maximum speed can reach up to 80cm/s. Currently, it is widely applied to the pattern
printing of such industries as garment, case, handbag etc.

After you have purchased the printer, please be sure to read this manual carefully so
that you can use this product properly and safely and fully understand its performance.

Chapter 1 Installation and Notice

1. What You Need to Get Started

Tools

The tools for assembling the two supports of the plotter are provided as accessories inside the
package.

Power Supply

Input voltage: 220±11V, 50Hz.

Paper Type

Support the 40~200 grams of rolling paper. The maximum width of the paper is related with the

model of the plotter.

Computer

For the task management of the plotter, a computer is needed. The basic requirements of the
computer are listed as follows.
CPU, Pentium 4(1.7GHz)
Memory, 1Gbytes DDR1
Hard disk, 40Gbytes
CD-ROM, 8X
Display, 17'
Supported operating system, Windows XP, Windows7, Windows 8

2. Unpacking and Checking Accessories

After open the package, you should check HS1-180 plotter and its accessories on the packing list.
They are include

1. HS1-180 plotter,

2. Two supports,

3. The bridge for two supports,

4. Two paper bails,

5. Two scrolls for feeding and receiving the paper,

6. Two cartridges,

7. USB cable,

8. Power cord,

9. Tools for assembling,

10. CD-ROM with the software and user manual.

3. Assembling the Printer

Assembling the plotter requires at least two people.

1. Fasten the two supports with the bridge and eight hexagon screws to set up the stand body.

2. Lift out the plotter by two persons and place it on the stand body by aligning with the four feet.
Then tighten it with four screws.

3. Connect the cable for the feeding and the receiving paper motors, which is on the right side
support.

4. Connect the power cord and turn on the power switch. The LCD turns on and the bracket of the
cartridges should move to the right side of the plotter.

5. The following text will displayed on the LCD:

6. After the bracket of the cartridges reaching the original point, the text will disappeared and
changed to the logo of the manufacture. At this moment, the plotter is ready for working.

7. Connect the USB cable to the computer. For a better stability of the data exchange between the
plotter and the desktop PC, you should insert the USB plug on the rear panel of the PC.

8. Loading the paper

Before loading the paper, please check the press wheels are lifted.

1. Loading the paper for the feeding scroll

Please turn off the power switch, standing in front of the printer, taking off the clamp on the both
sides of the feeding scroll. Let the feeding scroll through the new paper with a hollow shaft. Then,
clamping paper rolls with the two clamps.

2. Loading the paper for the receiving scroll

Please turn on the power switch and take off paper bail, the paper will be feeding. Then, turn off the
power. Hold the free side of the paper and insert it to the rail of the plotter, and paste it on the
receiving scroll with tape. Installing the bail for feeding, turn on the power, the receiving scroll will

tighten the free paper. Installing the bail for receiving paper, then the receiving motor will stop.

9. Installing the two cartridges

The type of cartridge used by this plotter is HP51645A/B. The steps of changing it are as follows.

1. Turn off the power switch.

2. Taking off the protective jacket of the cartridges.

3. Lift up the covers on the cartridge bracket.

4. Insert them into the bracket.

5. Press the covers on the cartridge bracket to fix them.

Chapter 2 Installing the Software

The driver for the plotter and the task manager of the plotter are provided on the CD-ROM. Before
the next operation, run the setup.exe in the CD-ROM to install both.

1. Installing the driver for Windows Xp , Windows 7 32-bits & 64-

bits,Windows 8 32-bits & 64-bits

Turn on the power, a wizard for installing the new hardware will show up on the screen.

Select the path of the drivers.

If the installer cannot determinate the type of the operation system, a dialog will show up as above.
You should choose the “Drivers\Win7_x86_amd64\x86” for windows XP 32bits and windows 7
32bits, “Drivers\Win7_x86_amd64\amd86” for windows XP 64bits and windows 7 64bits, and
“Drivers\Win8_x86_x64” for window 8 32bits & 64bits.

The files of driver are copying.

The driver is installed successfully.

The surf industry printer shows up in the device manager.

2. Install the task manager of the plotter

You can find the task manager of the plotter on the CD-ROM. Please install it follow the wizard.

After installed the task manager of the plotter, you can run it without power on the plotter.

Not connect the plotter

With the plotter power on, the status of the plotter will turn to “connected”. If not, please check the
USB cable of the plotter.

Chapter 3 Manage the task of the plotter

The task manger of the plotter is running as follows:

1. How to add a printing task

Click the Open button, a open file dialog will display as follows.

Choose the file which will be added in the file list automatically. Then, click the plot button to start
the task.

2. How to manage multi-task.

Repeat add the files which you want to plot choose them and click the plot button; all of them will be
output one by one.

3. Directory output

For easy to interactive with third-party CAD software, you can choose a directory for exchanging the
file and enable the auto-printing function. A typical setting shows as follow pictures.

4. Arrange the task in task manger of the plotter

Click the right button on the file, the menu is as follows.

Cancel a task
Set this task as a breakpoint
Delete a task
Preview of the original graphic
Preview of the output graphic

Set as the first task

[Plot] starts a task.

[Abort] cancel a task.

[Set as Paused] enable a file as paused point. The manager will be paused when meets this file.

[Del] deletes a task.

[Preview] is designed for checking the file imported is correct.

[Plot Preview] is designed for checking the file in output mode.

[Add one] increases the repeat counts of the output.

[Subtract one] decreases the repeat counts of the output file.

[Move Up], [Move Down], [Move to First] changes the order of the multi-task.

6. User Settings

The common settings are included in the User Settings.

[Page Setting] is the setting for outputting the graphic which wider than the maximum width. For
example, if the width of the graphic is 2 meter and the length is 8 meter. In the [Page Mode], the
graphic will split into two 1* 8 meter graphics. In the [wide mode], it will split into five 1.8 * 2 meter
graphics. Compare with these two modes, the [Page mode] has a better efficiency on time cost than
the [Wide Mode] and use more paper.

[Joint correction] is designed for correct the graphic. If you find the output is like bellows, you can
correct it by increase or decrease this value.

[Page width] is the width of the paper.

[Origin] is the width of the right blank.

[Line width] is the width of the line in the output graphic.

[Delete after print] enables the task manager deletes the file after finish plotting it.

[AutoPrinting] enables the task manager running the task in the list automatically.

[Manual] disenables the task manager when you add a file even you enable the [AutoPrinting]
function.

[No Check] is designed for special type of the printer. Enable it can increase the stability of the USB
communication.

7. Advanced options

The settings in the advanced options show as follows.

[Rotation] is designed for rotating the output graphic.

[Plot speed settings] is used for choosing the speed of the plotter. If you select the [Enable], it will
use the speed setting here. If not, it will use the default speed setting in the plotter.

[DXF Settings] includes the settings for opening the file. The [Hpp] is defined for the scale of 1:1.

8. Factory options

SurfCAD

The code for entering the factory settings is “SurfCAD”. It is unrelated case.

There are two lines of nozzles on the cartridge. The [Nozzle width] is the width between the two
lines. If you find the output on the paper is not very clear, adjust this value can fix it.

[Nozzle Settings] and [Type of Cartridge] should be set as above for the model of HS1-180.

[Pixel per 1000m] is the dpi of the plot.

[Y-motor step size] is the step size of the eating paper motor.

[Plotting Width] is the width of the paper.

[Font Size] is the font size.

[Vector font] enables the use of the vector font, not the default hollow font.

[Line end correct ratio] and [Compression] are invalid for the model HS1-180.

[Eat paper motor speed settings] is designed for the speed of the eat paper motor. The unit of the
value is the pulse. Please use the default value.

[Inkjet motor speed settings] is designed for the speed of the bracket of cartridge motor. The unit of
the value is also the pulse. Please use the default value.

[Enable] is defined for using the settings here, not the default value in the plotter.

[Max width] is the maximum value of the width of the plotter.

[Side Correct] is used to correct the error on the left of the plotter. Do not change it without the
permit of the manufacture.

[Raster ratio] is the magnification of the frequency of the grating signal. For the model HS1-180, it
must choose the [Raster ruler].

[LCD menu language] defines the language of the menu on the plotter.

[LCD Enable] defines the plotter with or without a LCD screen.

[Title name] defines the title on the task manager. If you select the [Enable], this title will also output
on the end of the graphic.

Chapter 4 Maintenance

1. Correct the size of output file

After a period of time use, the size of the output may be not exactly the same with the size in the
third-party CAD software.

The solid line describes the size in the third-party CAD software. It is named ideal size. The
imaginary line describes the real size on the output paper. They are not match. It can be corrected by
input the parameters as follows.

2. Change the cartridges

When the color of the line becomes shallow, you need change the cartridges..

After changed the cartridges, the lines painted by the two cartridges maybe separated, you can adjust
the position of the two cartridges in the menu of [User Settings] to correct it.

Chapter 5 Troubles shooting

1. The cartridge bracket hit the left side of the printer

Firstly, please check the [Factory Settings].

Secondly, please clean the grating scale and the jack of the read head on the main board.

2. Offline during output

Please check the connection of the USB cable at first, then adjust the timeout values of the printer as
follows.

Appendix Precautions

Always follow basic safety precautions when using this product to reduce risk of injury from fire or
electric shock.

1. Read and understand all instructions in the documentation that comes with the printer.

2. Use only a grounded electrical outlet when connecting this product to a power source. If you do
not know whether the outlet is grounded, check with a qualified electrician.

3. Observe all warnings and instructions marked on the product.

4. Unplug this product from wall outlets before cleaning.

5. Do not install or use this product near water, or when you are wet.

6. Install the product securely on a stable surface.

7. Install the product in a protected location where no one can step on or trip over the line cord, and
the line cord cannot be damaged.

8. If the product does not operate normally, see “Maintaining and troubleshooting” in the on screen
user’s guide on the Starter CD for your operating system.

9. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

10. The packaged printer should be protected against upside-down vibration and collision;

11. Do not plug or unplug the power accord when the line is energized;

12. Do not place the printer in humid and dusty environment;

13. If malfunction of the machine occurs, please restart the machine. If the problem persists, please
contact the supplier;

14. If the machine makes abnormal sound or its movement is obstructed, be sure to cut off the power
supply immediately and stop using the machine. Contact the supplier immediately;

15. Clean the grating scale regularly.
