o Works Scope

o This Method statement applies to the construction of EDD STANDARD ELECTRICAL SUB
STATIONS works to be under taken in the referenced Project.

o Supporting Documentation

o EDD – Standard specifications, Approved/contract drawings issued for construction as


applicable.
o Approved material submittals for construction of EDD Standard Electrical substation.
o Manufacturer’s assembly and installation instructions as applicable, when required such
as Doors & louvers.

QA/QC Documents:

o ED Inspection Reports and check lists as applicable, Including.


o Ready mix concrete delivery records.
o Due consideration shall be given to all information obtained from the above documents
during all activities of the construction and all necessary precautions, procedures and
protection shall be implemented and monitored and implemented accordingly.

o Ply woods

Work c om m e nc e m e nt

o To allow or permit the contractor to begin the work, once all norms, permissions and
consents have been obtained from the concerned or appropriate statutory authorities.
o Immediately after clearing the way leave, it should be submitted and attached work
commencement certificate showing the program of work, period of each step
starting and ending the job. This work commencement certificate should be
forwarded to HOC after being signed by the area Engineer for his approval.

I nit ia l visit

o The four corner points of substation should be marked along with the road level and
then the inspection request will be submitted to the consultant.
o After the inspection will get pass by the consultant another inspection request will be
submitted to EWA for initial visit.

Ex c a va t ion

o first trial hole should be made from one corner point to another corer point if any
live cable will come it should be informed to consultant as well as EWA ,after
that the next step will be done as per their plan.
o If the trial hole is clear the excavation of 1.55 meter will b done by the excavator.
An experienced work supervisor should be available at the site all
times
The following should be keep during the progress of the work,
o Signboard at site written in Arabic and English
o Prominently Proper fencing of trench should be given using sufficient
number of barriers and warning tape.
o After excavation of 1.55meter from the road level one inspection request should
be submitted to the consultant.

o After the inspection will get pass by the consultant another inspection request
will be submitted to EWA for initial visit.

Ba c k filling of e x c a va t ion

o 50 centimeter of backfilling will be done with boulder and another 50cm granular
material selected from the approved sources and shall consist of good hard
granular desert fill with the following limits of type B.
o Proper compaction will be done and the test will be taken which should get the
result more than 95%.
o Backfilling will be done by two layer each contain 25cm and compaction will be
done for each layer.

Blinding

o Shuttering will be done for the blinding work and 1000g polythene sheet will be
placed.
o After this inspection request will be submitted to the consultant and once the
inspection gets passed concreting will be done of type SRC 25n/mm2.
o 75 mm of blinding will be done.
o Proper curing will be done after the concreting.

Ra ft

o 12mm steel bar binding will be done with 200mm centre to centre distance of top
and bottom layers both.
o Lapping distance will be kept minimum of 60cm.
o Concrete spacer of 50mm will be placed in whole area of steel.
o Shuttering will be done for the concreting.
o After this one inspection request will be submitted to the consultant and when it
will get pass another inspection request will be submitted to EWA.
o After the inspection get pass concreting will be done.
o Proper vibrator will be used during concreting.
o The type of concrete will be SRC 45n/mm2.
o 250 mm of raft concrete will be done.

o Proper curing will be done after concreting.

Ground be a m

o Vertically 12mm of steel with 150mm center to center distance will be kept .
o Horizontally 12mm of steel bar with 200mm center to center distance will be
kept
o 50mm of concrete spacer will be kept.
o 8mm of stirrup will be used vertically with center to center distance of 25cm.
o 8mm of stirrups will be used horizontally with center to center distance of
25cm.
o Lapping distance will be minimum of 60cm.
o Opening will be kept as per the size of trench opening.
o Once steel work will be done one inspection request will be submitted to the
consultant.
o After the inspection will get pass shuttering work will be done with 18mm of
plywood’s and 2/3 runners.
o The inside support will be given by the clamps, tie rods.
o From outer side the support will be given by jerks.
o After the shuttering will be done one inspection request will be submitted to the
consultant and after it get pass another request will be submitted to EWA.
o Once the inspection get pass from EWA the concreting will be done.
o The type of concrete will be SRC 45 n/mm2
o The height of the ground beam will be 850mm.
o The width of the ground beam will be 200mm.
o Proper vibrator will be used for the concreting.
o Curing will be done properly.
o Bitumen paint will be applied outside the beam and it will be covered by 1000g
of polythene sheet.
o Then the back filling will be done outside of the ground beam till road level.

Bloc k w ork for t re nc h

o Block work will be done as per the drawing.


o Hollow blocks of 20cm will be used for trench wall.
o Each block will be filled with concrete.
o Preparation of plastering will be done for outside wall.
o After that plastering will be done.
o Inside wall will be painted by bitumen paint .
o 1000g of polythene will be kept after the paint is done.
o Then backfilling with type “B” will be done inside the block work with 2
layers.
o Each layer will be compacted and tested.

St e e l w ork & Shut t e ring for floor slab

o 12mm steel will be used for the flooring steel binding.


o 40mm of concrete spacer will be used.
o Shuttering will be done for the flooring.
o One inspection request will be submitted to consultant and after the inspection
get over concreting will be done with src 45n/mm2.
o Curing will be done properly.

Bloc k w ork & w a ll insula t ion

o The area is to be cleaned, all loose materials to be removed.


o Before starting of block work, the area is to be washed with water.
o All block shall be thoroughly wetted with water before they are laid and tops of walls
left from previous day work shall be similarly wetted before the new work
commences.

o Block work shall be carried up in a uniform manner, no portion being lifted more
than 1M above another. Daily lifts shall not be more than 5 layers only (1.0M). This
is to prevent the movement of the block work to the sideways missing the plumb and
alignment and also loosing 10mm bed thickness.

o All block work bed joints both vertical and horizontal to be solidly filled to a general
thickness of 10mm and at no point should not be more than the specified.
o Block wall shall be built in stretcher bond. Intersections of block wall shall be in
alternate courses where possible.
o Internal blocks will be of size 10cm and outer should be 20cm, rock wool of 50mm
will come in between both the block work.
o Cutting of blocks shall be kept to a minimum. When cutting of blocks is essential, a
bolster shall be preference to a rotary cutter
o All units shall be laid on a full bed of mortar in perfectly horizontal courses. All
pretend joints shall be in perfect vertical alignment and well filled by buttering the
ends of the unit and then sliding into position against its neighbour. Collar joints
shall be filled by buttering the stretcher side
o All the Block should be filled with Concrete (Each 3 layer of the Blocks)
o Curing of block work should be done for at least 3 days

Colum n AN D RI N G BEAM

o Column steel work will be done according to drawing


o Lapping will be kept minimum 1meter.
o After the inspection shuttering will be done.
o Ring beam steel work will be done according to the drawing.
o The shuttering will be done as per the requirement.
o After the inspection get pass from the consultant and Edd officer the concreting
will be done.
o proper scaffolding will be done for column work.
o Proper vibrator will be used during concreting.
o Curing will be done.

H ollow c ore sla b

o 200 mm thickness of hollow core slab will be placed on the ring beam with exact
measurement.

I N SU LAT I ON FOR ROOF

o 50mm thickness of spray foam of polyurethane will be used.


o 50mmthick cast-in stu concrete will be used as screed on above the slab, one
geo textile separator will be placed in between screed and polyurethane.

Pla st e ring of w a ll

o Surface to be rendered must be clean and free from all dust, loose material etc.
o All Plastering accessories used shall be approved by the engineer prior to
commence the work.
o Proper scaffolding shall be provided while working height.
o The entire concrete surface to be rendered such as column, wall, lintels etc. shall
be hacked properly prior to applied tryolean work.
o All the corner, Junctions etc. fix the accessories such as angle beds, metal lath,
plaster stops etc and plaster button to be fix before the Tyrolienne coat. All MEP
electrical conduits / box fixing to be completed prior to the Tyrolienne work.
o Before applying the Tyrolean initial inspection has to be carried out by the
engineer and get it approved.
o Tyrolean has to be applied with a ratio of 1:1 with approved bonding agent as
per manufacturer recommendation. (One part of cement and I part of sand add
with a measurement box).
o Allow the rough coat continuously moist for 3 days.
o Prepare the mortar as per the specified ratio of 1:3 mix with mixer machine and
applied on the wetted surface finished smooth by float and trowel by skilled
masons.
o QA / QC to inspect all plaster works regularly.

o The work shall be tested frequently with a straight edge and plumb bob to be the
tolerance limit as specified.
o Proper scaffolding shall be provided while working height.
o Curing shall be started as soon as the plaster has hardened sufficiently and the
surface not to be damaged when watered for a period of 7 Days max.
o Wooden box to be fixed for the junction box and for the MEP services around
the Block work prior to plaster works.
o All the works to be carried out in accordance to the approved particular
specification & Method Statement. After, Doors and Louvers to be fixed

Pa int

o Once the plaster surface is ready to receive the paint coating, the approved
primer shall be applied for the walls, following that the levelling putty shall be
applied wherever required.
o Once the surface is smoothened by rubbing stone, the first coat of approved
colour weather coat fine texture to be applied by using rollers and brush. After
the surface is dry second coat to be applied in the same method.
o The same painting procedure will be followed for the internal walls with
approved colour.

Che que re d pla t e fix ing


o 6mm thickness of chequered plate will be used for covering the
trenches
o The size and shape of chequered plate should exactly cover the
trenches.
o 2 coatings of rustproof paint and 2 coats of grey enamel paint will
be done on the chequered plates.
Wa t e rproofing
o Surface of the roof will be cleaned properly
o 50mm pu foam will be done
o 50 mm screed concrete will be done.
o 4mm waterproof membrane will be placed after putting 2 coats of bitumen paint.

SU PERV I SI ON

o Civil supervisor will be present on site during all construction activities associated with
the substation work & will monitor & control the materials & work procedures for
compliance with the project requirements.
o Inspections will be conducted in the presence of consultant’s QA/QC Inspectors,
Esmaely Engineer & EDD representative where required.

WORKING HOURS

o The working hours for the EDD substation civil work will follow the general
working hours of 13-B site which is from 6am to 6pm if any urgency will be there for
extension of time the prior approval will be taken from consultant .
o During summer restriction time working hour will be from 4am to 12 o’clock and
again work will start at 4 pm till 7pm in the evening if necessary.
HOUSE KEEPING
o The work site will be maintained in a clean & tidy condition during the work, the site
will be cleared everyday once the work is done for the day.
