Maintenance Recommendation for Nabtesco’s M/E Control System9

Thank you very much for your ordinary patronage to Nabtesco v ’ ilvicts.

Nabtesco’s main engine (herea fter ‘ME”) Control systems have been ivitlely adopted by
major marine iliesel engine licensers such as MAN, Wä rtsilii, UE, etc.
It is obvious that the M/E Control system has an important function to control M/E, which
has liecoine key equipment for navigation.
Any trotible in the system can obstruct for on time service and may cause the creiv to suffer
the increased of their burden.

It is essential to cat-ry out daily maintenance to keep its normal operation, mearn.vhile we
assume that there will be aged deterioration while the product has been used for a certain
long time.
In order to use the system for years under the severe environment, we would like to
recorn mend you to take our maintenance reoom mendation this opportunity as follows:

1. Maintenance of Emergency Control System in Local (Engine Room)


In the case that Electric Governor system is installetl besides pneurn atic devices
which is usetl in local ( Engine room ) as control devices, they are subject items of this
maintenance recommendation.
l-1 Maintenance of Pneumatic System
We will suggest you maintenance recommendation by accorcling to list of attached
article.
1-2 Maintenance of Governor System
• In every 2.5 years : General inspection for Governor system
' In every 7.5 years : Replacement of New Servo driver for Actuator Drive Unit
• In every 10 years : Replacement of New Governor Actuator
2. Maintenance of Remote Control 8ystem in Bridge and Engine Control R' oom
Electric devices of the I\fE Remote Control system in the Bridge and Control Room
are included in this recommendation.
Potentiometers for control and telegraph communication, parts in power supply units
(i.e. ACfDG converters, D CfDC converters, etc.) will be checked and replaced with
new ones if necessary.
• In every 2.5 years : General inspection for Remote Control System
• In every 5 10 years : Replacement of electrical component

2-1 Potentiometers
All potentiometere control and for telegraph communication are included in this
recommendation. Possible trouble occurred h-om deterioration includes the failure of
telegraph communication or the abnormality in M/E control due to the vai'iation of
resistance value (deterioration of the part ordinarily used for service operation).

2-2 Power Supply Devices


All power supply devices used in the whole system are included in this
recommendation. Possible trouble occurred from deterioration includes the operation
failure in telegraph communication, control and safety circuits because the output
voltage from each power supply device might become lower than the allowable level.

Q1 AC/DC Converters
The device converts voltage horn AC power source which is supplied by mein
power to 24V DC power source for system control. If the output voltage from the
ACfDC converter’ fails, it will be backed up with 24V DC of emergency source.

Q2 DCfDC Converters
The DC power sources (415V DC, 16V DC) are used inside the system. They are
outputted by step-downing the 24V DC produced from the ACfDC converter. Thei'e
are single power source and Resister unit type by system.

2-3 CPU Printed circuit board


It controls the printed circuit boated for Telegraph devices or Micro Computer Unit.
Because of aged deterioration, there is possibility to be communication abnormal of
Control or Safety device circuit. We recommend replacement new one every ten years
and clean in the Micro Computer unit as well.

2-4 L.C.D. ( Liquid GryBtaI DiBplay )
It is a display monitor that has been equipped for latest WE remote control system
or Governor System. Malfunction may occur such as difficult to see the display
because of aged deterioration of the backlight. We recommend replacement new one
every 7.5 10 years,

Electric items such as Ventilation fan and Proximity switch, Aux. Relay, etc. except
mentioned above, they are carried out general inspection by use of out' original check
list. As a result of that, we will suggest you suitable measures such as replacement if
it's necessary
In addition, there’re some differences of composition products, according to type of the
Remote Control Systems, so we’ll suggest you by attachment maintenance list.

3. Suggestion for maintenance liat


If you send the fleet list of your managing vessel and docking schedule in advance,
we will be glad to make appropriate our maintenance plan.
We have added Servo driver replacement as recommend item in every 7.5 years
since Sep 2011 especially Goveznax System, in the device which become failure
operation by malfunction. We will be glad to provide appropriate replacement
recommendation by each past replacement records, if you inform us Vessel name,
Ship Yard, Hull number and IMO number.
Pleose consider end investigate the recommendation which we are suggesting end
add in your maintenance plan. We at’e waiting for your preventive maintenance
order regarding diagnosis of electric parts which we are suggesting this time.
