STEM ROBOTICS CURRICULUM

GRADE 7 – 12
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW: Through this engaging curriculum, you will explore the limitless possibilities offered by
the fascinating world of robots. Throughout this course, you will learn the foundations of robotics, develop essential
engineering and programming skills, and gain hands-on experience with the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics system.

Robotics is quickly changing several industries and propelling innovation on a global scale. Engaging in this
curriculum will help you gain important knowledge and abilities that could lead to intriguing job opportunities in
engineering, automation, and technology.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this curriculum, you will:

 Understand the basic principles of robotics and their applications.

 Gain proficiency in building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 set.
 Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills through hands-on challenges and projects.
 Collaborate with your peers in team-based activities, fostering communication and teamwork.
 Apply concepts of mechanics, sensors, actuators, and programming to create autonomous robots capable of
completing complex tasks.
 Cultivate creativity and innovation as you design and customize your robots for specific challenges.

PREREQUISITES:
No prior robotics experience is required for this curriculum. However, a basic understanding of concepts in science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will be beneficial. A curiosity to explore and a willingness to learn
and experiment are the key ingredients for success in this course.
MATERIALS AND RESOURCES:
Throughout this curriculum, we will primarily use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics set. This comprehensive kit
provides the necessary components, motors, sensors, and a user-friendly programming interface to bring your
robots to life. In addition to the EV3 set, we will make use of various tools and resources, such as LEGO Mindstorm
EV3 Software, Virtual Robotics Toolkit (V.R.T), Virtual Robotics Games (V.R.G), Studio 2.0 and supplementary
materials to support your learning journey. N/B: Most of this tools and resources requires internet connection.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING:

Your progress and understanding of the curriculum will be assessed through a combination of assignments,
projects, quizzes, and practical demonstrations. Also, overall class behavior and performance adds to your grade.
Specific assessment criteria will be provided for each activity, allowing us to track your growth and send
constructive feedback to your parents/ward.

Classroom Rules and Expectations:

To ensure a productive and safe learning environment, we expect all students to adhere to the following guidelines:

 Respect your peers, the instructor, and the equipment.

 Actively participate and contribute to group discussions and activities.
 Follow safety protocols when handling the robotics components.
 Collaborate effectively and demonstrate good teamwork skills.
 Seek help when needed and aid your peers.

Course Schedule and Timeline:

Please refer to the provided curriculum schedule for an overview of the topics and activities covered in this course.
The schedule outlines the sequence of lessons for each topic, providing you with a roadmap for your learning
journey.
