About SOLIDWORKS:

 The SOLIDWORKS CAD software is a mechanical design automation application that lets designers
quickly sketch out ideas, experiment with features and dimensions, and produce models and detailed
drawings.
 SOLIDWORKS is published by Dassault Systemes.
 SOLIDWORKS is a solid modeler, and utilizes a parametric feature-based approach which was
initially developed by PTC (Creo/Pro-Engineer) to create models and assemblies.
 Directly competitive products to SolidWorks include PTC Creo Elements/Pro, Solid Edge,
and Autodesk Inventor.
 SOLIDWORKS uses a 3D design approach. As you design a part, from the initial sketch to the final
result, you create a 3D model. From this model, you can create 2D drawings or mate components
consisting of parts or subassemblies to create 3D assemblies. You can also create 2D drawings of 3D
assemblies
Prospect for Mechanical Engineering:

 Designing and Simulation is an integrated process involved in almost all mechanical problems
ranging from Product design, development and manufacturing to plan and testing of automobiles,
from development of advanced tools to excavation of minerals, from thermal power plants to
cooling towers, heat Exchangers and Air conditioning systems, etc.
 In today’s engineering regime and culture it is expected to perform virtual experiments and test
known as simulations to obtain probable results that represents and replicate actual product or
desirable solution.
 SOLIDWORKS provides the ability to plan and replicate digital models of the prospective solutions
and products. Its Simulation feature provides the ability to produce probabilities of desired results
on the basis of considered boundary conditions.
