breathing apparatus cylindersused during drills is to be provided or a suitable
number of spare cylinders to be carried on board to replace those used during
drills by 1 July 2014.
Z0402. As required by SOLAS Ch.II-2 Reg.10.10.1, self-contained compressed air 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
breathing apparatus of firefighter'soutfits to comply with paragraph 2.1.2.2 of
chapter 3 of the Fire Safety Systems Code (i.e. Compressed air breathing
apparatus to be fitted with an audible alarm and a visual or other device which
will alert the user before the volume of the air in the cylinder has been
reduced to no less than 200 liter by 1 July 2019.
Z0403. A minimum of two two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus for each fire 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
party for fire-fighter'scommunication to be carried on board (as required by
SOLAS Ch.II-2 Reg.10.10.4) not later than the first survey after 1 July 2018.
Those two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus to be of an explosion proof
type or intrinsically safe.
Z0404. Ship-specific plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water to 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
be placed on board (as requiredby SOLAS Ch.III Reg.17-1) by the first
periodical or renewal safety equipment survey of the ship to be carried out
after 1 July 2014 whichever comes first.
Z0405. For compliance to new regulation 7 of SOLAS Ch.XI-1 coming into force from 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
1st July 2016, ship is requiredto carry an appropriate portable atmosphere
testing instrument/s(Refer MSC.1/Circ.1477). As a minimum,these shall be
capable of measuring concentrations of oxygen, flammable gases or vapours,
hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide prior to entry into enclosed spaces.
Instruments carried under other requirements may satisfy this regulation.
Suitable means shall be provided for the calibration of all such
instruments.[MSC.380(94)]
Z0406. Arrangement in respect of oil residues (sludge) tank(s) on the vessel is to be 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
verified for compliance with Paragraph 3.3 of the revised MARPOL Annex I/
Reg.12 adopted through MEPC. 266(68) and reported at next IOPP survey.
Where the arrangement does not meet the requirements in Paragraph 3.3,
suitable recommendation is to be made so that same is complied with by not
later than the first IOPP renewal survey carried out on or after 1 January
2017.
Z0407. New format of Garbage Record Book (Part I and Part II) as per IMO 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
Resolution MEPC.277(70) is to be provided with effect from 1 March 2018.
Z0408. On or before 31st December 2019, ships of 5,000 GT and above are required 05/08/2021 DUB21P176/DUB/LRS
to have onboard a SEEMP Part II in accordance with MEPC 282(70) along
with a Confirmation of Compliance issued on behalf ofAdministration. From
1st January 2019, the ship is to collect the data specified in appendix IX of
MARPOL Annex VI, according to the methodology included in the SEEMP.
The data is to be submitted in the standard formatprescribed by IMO in
Appendix 3 of MEPC 282(70). By 31st May 2020 and each year thereafter, the
Statementof Compliance – Fuel Oil Consumption Reporting is to be carried
onboard. In case of Change of Flag and/or Company, the ship shall on the
day of completion of the change or as close as practical thereto report
theaggregated data for the portion of the calendar year corresponding to the
Company, as specified in appendix IX of MARPOL Annex VI.
Z0409. A stability instrument, capable of verifying compliance with intact and damage 25/03/2021 DUB21F014/DUB/
stability requirements,approved by the Administration having regard to the
performance standards recommended by the Organizationis required to be
fitted for compliance with Marpol Annex I/Reg.28(6) at the first scheduled
renewal survey of
the ship on or after 1 January 2016 but not later than 1 January 2021, unless
the shipis fitted with a stabilityinstrument prior to 1 January 2016 which is
capable of verifying compliance with the intact and damagestability, to the
satisfaction of the Administration. A document of approval for the stability
instrument is required to be available on board and the provision of the
stability instrument is to be reflected in the Form B.
Z0410. From 1st January 2016, in order that biofuel blends containing 75 per cent or
more of petroleum oil can becarried on board, the (type) approval of Oil
Discharge Monitoring and Control System is to comply with the 2013
amendments to MEPC. 108(49) adopted through MEPC.240 (65).
Z0411. For compliance to Regulation B-3 of the International Convention for the 13/02/2024 DUB24P075/DUB/
Control and Management of Ships’Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004, ship is
required to conduct Ballast Water Management that at least meets the
standard described in regulation D-2 from the first IOPP renewal survey on or
after 8 September 2019.
Z0413. SEEMP addressing annual operational CII and reviewed for compliance with 07/11/2023 DUB23P355/DUB/
Regulation 26.3 of MARPOL Annex VI (MEPC 328(76)) along with its
Confirmation of Compliance is to be placed onboard by 01st January 2023.
Z0514. Verification of compliance to SOLAS Ch.II-1 Reg. 3-8, Para 9, adopted vide
Resolution MSC. 474 (102) in respect of inspection and maintenance of
mooring equipment including lines is to be undertaken at the first periodical
survey of the Cargo Ship Safety Construction Certificate falling due on or after

Characters of Class SUL SARVOUTAM Denotes vessels which are classed with Indian Register of Shipping
LANGER where the hull and its appendages and equipment (i.e. anchors, chain
cables, hawsers) meet the Rule requirements.
SWASTIKA Thisdistinguishing mark inserted before a Character of Class is
assigned to new ships where the hull and its appendages,equipment
and the machinery as appropriate,are constructed under special survey
of IRSin compliance with the Rules to the satisfaction of IRS
IY INDIAN YANTRA Denotes that for self propelled sea going vessels, the machinery
installation complies with the applicable requirements of Indian
Register of Shipping
Class Notations - Hull ESP - Vessel complies with requirements of enhanced survey programme
Load Comp (3) LOADING Load Comp (1) Denotes that the ship is equipped with a loading
COMPUTER (3) computer capable of ascertaining and comparing with the permissible
limits, the hull girder loads in still water in any loading condition as
required by Part 3, Chapter 5 and Part 5, as applicable, of the Rules
Load Comp (2) Denotes that in addition to the requirements for Load
Comp (1) mentioned above, the ship's loading computer is capable of
performing intact stability calculations for any loading condition to verify
compliance with the applicable requirements indicated in Part 3,
Chapter 1 of the Rules
Load Comp (3) Denotes that in addition to the requirements for Load
Comp (2) mentioned above, the ship's loading computer is capable of
performing the stability calculations in damaged condition
- DOUBLE HULL When bulk carriers, oil tankers, oil or ore carriers and oil or bulk
carriers are of double hull construction, in the entire cargo area (See
Ch.2, Sec.1), the main class notations described above will be
appended by notation ‘DOUBLE HULL’
SPM SINGLE POINT Denotes that the vessel is fitted with standard arrangements for single
MOORING point mooring as per Pt.5, Ch.28 of the IRS Rules
Class Notations - Machinery IBS Integrated IBS The additional class notation ‘IBS’ will be assigned to ships fitted with
Bridge System an Integrated Bridge System in accordance with the requirements
given in Pt.5, Ch.31 of the IRS Rules. Integrated Bridge System allows
simplified and centralized bridge operation of the main functions of
navigation, manoeuvring and communication, as well as monitoring
from the bridge of other functions such as:
- Passage execution
- Communication system
- Monitoring of the machinery installation
- Pollution monitoring
- Monitoring of HVAC for passenger ships
- Safety and security.
SYJ SWACHALIT Denotes that the ship can be operated with the machinery spaces
YANTRIK JAHAZ unattended in accordance with the applicable requirements of Part 5,
Chapter 22 of the IRS Rules
TCM TAILSHAFT Denotes that the tail shaft condition is regularly monitored based on
CONDITION service records, oil and fresh water sample analysis, as applicable, in
MONITORING accordance with the survey requirements of Pt.1, Ch.2 and
arrangements are provided for this purpose in accordance with Pt.4,
Ch.4 of the IRS Rules.
NV NIPRABHAV This notation is assigned to ships classed with Indian Register of
VASHPA Shipping intended for (i) carriage of oil in bulk or (ii) carriage of liquid
chemicals in bulk. It denotes that the cargo spaces can be inerted by
means of an inert gas system which has been approved, installed and
tested in accordance with the relevant Rules
Ship Type Notation - OIL TANKER This notation will be assigned to tankers intended primarily to carry oil
in bulk and built in accordance with applicable requirements of Part 5,
Chapter 2 of the IRS Rules. Where the scantlings and arrangements
have been approved for the carriage of oil having a flash point of 60°C
or above (closed cup test) or other liquid cargoes in bulk, the class
notation will be suitably modified to show the nature of the cargo

e-Certificate verification from IRClass website can also be done by scanning the QR Code, printed on the bottom right
side of the certificate using any QR CODE scanning application available in app store.
e-Certificate can be downloaded from IRClass website by using the Unique Tracking ID provided to each certificate or
by scanning the QR code printed on the face of the certificate. e-certificates can also be directly downloaded from
IRClass website by using login credentials provided to the company.
Upon completion of Surveys/Audits/Inspections attending surveyor is required to update endorsement details in the e-
Certificates online immediately but within two working days. A hardcopy of the certificate is to be endorsed and kept
on board in the meantime.
When surveys are completed by flag administration or other RO surveyors, copy of survey report along with endorsed
certificate is to be forwarded electronically to ecertificates@irclass.org by attending surveyor / owners / managers.
The endorsement detail is reflected on the e-certificate based on information so received.

2. The class of the ship will be liable to be subjected to suspension procedure in the following scenario.
a) if the Owner fails to notify IRS of any damage to the ship's hull, machinery or equipment, which may adversely affect
classification of the ship.
b) if the annual, intermediate survey, renewal survey become overdue.
c) if an item of continuous survey is overdue at the time of annual survey, unless the item is dealt with or postponed by
agreement.
d) if conditions of class are not dealt with by the due date or postponed by agreement, by the due date.
e) ship proceeds to sea without having completed surveyor's recommendations.
f) if alterations are carried out on items which may affect the classification of the ship without informing IRS, except
in the case of emergency repairs.
g) if the ship is not offered for annual general examination for maintenance of laid up notation within the window of
periodical survey
h) Where the ship proceeds to sea with less freeboard than that approved by IRS or when the freeboard marks are placed
higher on the ship's sides than the position assigned or approved by IRS
i) When it is found that the ship is being operated in a manner contrary to that agreed at the time of classification, or is
being operated in conditions or in areas more onerous than those agreed
j) from the expiry date of Certificate of Class or by the expiry date of any extension granted, if the special survey has not
been completed by the due date and an extension has not been agreed to
3. The class of the ship is liable to be withheld or, if already granted, may be withdrawn in case of any non-payment of fees or
expenses chargeable for the service rendered.
4. It shall be the Owners' responsibility to maintain the ship in between surveys and offer the ship for general examination
within the window of periodical survey including ships which are laid up.
5. Services of IRS approved service providers are to be utilized, as they affect decision making during classification surveys.
a) Firms engaged in thickness measurements on ships.
b) Firms carrying out an in-water survey on ships and mobile offshore units by diver or Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).
c) Firms engaged in tightness testing of closing appliances such as hatches, doors etc. with ultrasonic equipment.
d) Firms engaged in survey using Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT) as an alternative means for close-up survey of the
structure of ships and mobile offshore units.
