NUMBER: 5.0.4/101
ISSUED: September 2022
REVISED:
PRODUCT: ALL
MODEL(S): ALL
Specifics: HMI Computers
SUBJECT: HMI Support Status and Upgrade Paths

Type of Change: Product Information

Recommended Earliest Convenience

Compliance:

PURPOSE:
To communicate the status of support for human machine interface (HMI) computers and the
recommended HMI upgrade paths to reduce the security risk that unsupported operating systems
and software components present.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
As computer operating systems (OS) and software application components evolve, support for
prior versions is discontinued. Unsupported OS’s and software components cannot be patched,
leaving the HMI vulnerable to security threats. Adoption of a lifecycle product support strategy is
one action to mitigate these risks and avoid support interruptions.
Solar recommends updating to a supported configuration to reduce security risk and ensure HMI
support can be provided when needed. Updating to a supported configuration is required if HMI
project modifications (i.e. adding/removing tags, view modifications etc.) are required or when a
Solar HMI is re-imaged. Deploying new hardware and converting a project should be planned in
advance.
The following table summarizes lifecycle stages for Solar HMI configurations and provides
recommended upgrade paths for each.
