Chapter 1
Chapter One is divided into five parts: (1) Background and Theoretical Framework of the Study, (2)
Statement of the Problem, (3) Significance of the Study, (4) Definition of Terms and (5) Delimitation of
the Study.
Part One, Background and Theoretical Framework of the Study, presents the introduction of the study
Part Two, Statement of the Problem, describes the purpose in conducting the study.
Part Three, Significance of the Study, states the profits that could be achieved from the findings of the
study.
Part Four, Definition of Terms, lists alphabetically the research terminologies o for reasons of clarity and
The player's body responds only to what the eyes can see. In addition, coaches always ask their
players to follow and monitor the ball accurately and this signifies the importance of visual abilities in
volleyball. Nevertheless, visual exercises don't have sufficient attention in volleyball. A few studies
tried to identify the implied mechanisms or specific sensory information involved in the identification
process that leads to successful performance. Unfortunately, these studies that try to verify results in
Very few studies dealt with improving these skills in athletes. Some of these studies indicated
that visual cognition can be trained as they asserted the significant effects of visual training programs on
improving visual abilities as visual training can distinguish winners from losers (Schwab & Memmert
2021). An athlete's vision is directly connected to the proprioceptive center in the brain through the
optic nerve fibers. According to the American Heritage Science Dictionary (2022), "Proprioception is the
unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself.
In humans, stimuli are detected by nerves within the body itself, as well as by the semicircular canals of
the inner ear." These centers control the awareness of the body in space. A perfect example of
proprioception is to balance on one leg with your eyes closed versus open. Dynamic sports vision
The obvious reason for incorporating sports vision training into a volleyball practice is the visual
system leads the motor system. When an athlete improves his/her visual skills, overall performance is
greatly enhanced.
An athlete's focus and concentration are also greatly improved, getting the athletes in the zone.
According to the late Greg Giovanazzi, in his article next paragraph "Seeing is Believing" (Volleyball
Magazine, Vol. 6, No. 11, 1995 updated 2023), "When people talk about vision in volleyball, they're not
just discussing what one sees but also what is recognized and then acted upon. The recognition aspect
of vision is often referred to as reading. Great attackers read the block; great diggers read the attacker,
great blockers read the setter, and setters read the blockers. The game, at all levels, is won and lost
This study aims to identify the Phase Space: The Effect Of Visual Exercise On The Performance
of Volleyball of the Special Program in Sports Learner's of Tigbauan National High School, Tigbauan, Iloilo
This study will aim to look into the visual exercises playing volleyball regards to the SPS SPECIAL
1. What are the visual exercises of playing volleyball of SPS learners when taken as a whole and group
3. What are the advantage and disadvantages of visual exercises of playing volleyball?
4. Is there a significant effect in utilizing visual exercises on playing volleyball among SPS learners?
Volleyball coaches. Is physically a very demanding sport which takes the skill and the physical fitness
both. Some of us play volleyball to become professionals and some of us only see it as an entertaining
activity. Not only you can become a professional volleyball player, you can also become a volleyball
coach.

Definition of Terms
For the purpose of clarity and for the better understanding of the study, important terms are defined
Effects. An effect is a change that is caused in a person or thing by another person or thing" (Collins
In this study, effect means a change which is a result or consequence of an action cause.
Phase space. Chaotic attractor can be defined as deterministic random behavior in bounded jinase
space of the underlying nonlinear dynamical system that has extreme sensitiveness to infinitesimal
through reading the ball and opponent movements in addition to recalling previously used movements
In this study, visual means relating to sight, or to things that you can see.
Volleyball. is currently considered to be a dynamic game, during which low intensity and high intensity
movements altemate. The high intensity movements include jumps, shuffles and rapid changes in
This study will use a narrative inquiry approach and aim to look into the visual exercises on the
performance of volleyball of SPS learners. Using the adoptive and modified questioners, informants
Pwere purposely selected. Facts that were presented on this study were based on the written narrative
This study will be conducted at Tigbauan National High School Special Program in Sports for Academic
Year 2023-2024.
