Theoretical Framework

The use of educational technology and its design can improve effective

learning, as shown by e-learning theory, which is based on cognitive

science concepts (David, 2015; Wang, 2012). One principle of e-learning

theory is the Multimedia Learning and it insist that deeper learning can be

nurture using two formats the audio and visual (Mayer, Sweller & Moreno,

2015). Effective learning can be facilitated by multimedia design concepts

(Mayer & Moreno, 2003; Moreno & Mayer, 2007). For instance, Mayer

(1997) determined that multimedia training was beneficial after conducting

many reviews of the subject. Mayer (1997) examined eight studies to

determine the effectiveness of multimedia instruction and discovered that

students who received a presentation that included both verbal and visual

explanations scored 75% higher on problem-solving transfer tests for

creative solutions than those who received only verbal explanation. When

verbal and visual descriptions were used simultaneously, Mayer (1997)

discovered that students outperformed the median on assessments of

creative solution transfer by more than 50%.

Scope and Limitation

Scope of the Study

This study's major goal is to evaluate how well South East Asian Institute

of Technology, Inc.'s (SEAIT) second-year BSED students are learning

virtually. The study will focus on synchronous and asynchronous learning

techniques, the utilization of digital platforms and resources, and

communication tools, among other virtual learning-related topics. It will

look examine how virtual learning affects second-year BSED students'

academic performance, taking into account factors including grades,

course completion rates, and overall academic achievement. Additionally,

the study would actively involve the students by gathering their viewpoints

and experiences through focus groups, interviews, or surveys.

Limitation of the Study

It is crucial to be aware of the restrictions placed on this research. First off,

the results will only apply to SEAIT BSED 2nd-year students, therefore

extra care should be taken when extrapolating them to other academic

levels, fields of study, or organizations. As a result of the research's time

constraints, it may not be possible to conduct a thorough study or measure

the long-term effects of virtual learning. Additionally, while the study will

analyse the efficiency of virtual learning, it won't thoroughly review SEAIT's

technological infrastructure or look into how infrastructure constraints

affect the efficiency of virtual learning. The efficiency of virtual learning

may also be influenced by outside factors, such as student circumstances

or access to resources outside of the classroom, although these aspects

will not be further investigated in this study. Last but not least, self-

reporting bias could be a problem as students give their own subjective

accounts of their virtual learning experiences in surveys or interviews.

Understanding the specific context of the research on the efficiency of

virtual learning for BSED 2nd-year students at SEAIT and the study's

limitations is essential for evaluating the study's findings and

understanding its limits.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Students’ Performance in Online Learning Environment: The Role of

Task Technology Fit and Actual Usage of System During COVID-19

According to Butt, S., et al. (November, 2021). The 2019 Pandemic has

forced students to take online classes, increasing their stress levels and

negatively impacting their academic performance. This issue urges the

development of a mechanism to make online learning more effective in

this nerve racking time. Therefore, the present study has integrated the

task technology fit (TTF) model and the DeLone and McLean Model of

Information Systems Success (DMISM) to address the stated issue. The

data were collected from 330 and 326 students of top ranked public and

private universities of Punjab, respectively. The theoretical framework was

analyzed with the help of structural equation modeling (SEM) using

Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). The findings indicate that overall

quality positively predicts performance through the mediating role of user

satisfaction and TTF. The overall quality also positively elevates

performance through the mediating role of user satisfaction and actual

usage of the system. Moreover, perceived usefulness proved to be a

moderator between overall quality and user satisfaction. Finally, the

expected practical and theoretical implications have also been discussed.

Effectiveness of Online and Blended Learning from Schools: A

Systematic Review

This systematic analysis examines effectiveness research on online and

blended learning from schools, particularly relevant during the Covid-19

pandemic, and also educational games, computer-supported cooperative

learning (CSCL) and computer-assisted instruction (CAI), largely used in

schools but with potential for outside school. Eight research databases

were searched. Studies which were non-school, before 2000, not in

English, without data and duplicates were removed, leaving 1355 studies:

online 7%, blended 13%, CSCL 7%, games 26% and CAI 47%. Overall,

digital technology was more effective (better) than regular instruction in

85% of studies, 8% the same and 3% worse. Blended learning was

considerably better than online learning.

CAI was the most effective, with games and CSCL coming after

blended learning, but of course CAI was not searched for and these were

not widely used outside of schools. Primary and early years/kindergarten

were most effective (87% better) and secondary/high next (80%). Although

science and mathematics were the most popular subjects, English as a

foreign language interventions were the most effective, then writing and

STEM, thinking, arts/music, humanities, health and science, reading and

maths, foreign languages and English in that order. Overall, females did

better than males. ‘Low ability’ children and second language learners did

especially well. Disadvantaged and special educational needs/disabled

students did slightly worse. Self-efficacy was highly related to better

outcomes. The limitations/strengths of the research were discussed and

linked back to previous literature, a critical analysis made, and detailed

implications for practitioners, policy makers and future researchers

outlined. Digital technology's main advantage may be the possibility for

enhanced task flexibility and learner autonomy, encouraging greater self-

regulation. However, this may not be an advantage for all students.

According to Martín, C. C., Acal, C., Honrani, M. E., & Estrada, Á. (2021).

Universities have conducted education in a virtual manner, boosting the

integration and use of technologies in methodological adaptation as a

result of the global pandemic brought on by COVID-19. The purpose of the

study is to understand how students at the University of Granada's Faculty

of Education Sciences perceive the educational model used in the virtual

learning environment during their confinement during the second semester

of the 2019–2020 academic year. A basic online questionnaire with

proportional affixing of 0.5, a 95% confidence level, and a maximum

allowable error of 4.7% was used to collect the data. The results show a

generalized lack of student satisfaction, which is essential to carry out the

change in educational processes and teacher training. The virtual

environment encourages the use of active techniques, particularly the

flipped classroom methodology, however students generally express

discontent with the adequate methodological development and professor

involvement. Even while they believe they lack the necessary

understanding of picture editors, video, computer graphics, synchronous

response systems, and anti-plagiarism tools, they make excellent use of

email and the virtual learning platform (PRADO). According to the survey

results, the teaching staff's e-learning tutoring duties, responsibilities, and

beliefs are not up to par.

Blended, Distance, Electronic and Virtual-Learning for the New

Normal of Mathematics Education: A Senior High School Student’s

Perception

Due to the ongoing danger of CoViD-19, this study investigates how senior

high school students view blended, distance, electronic, and virtual

learning as a new method of delivering courses for the upcoming school

year. The sample for this study was a randomly selected group of 342

senior high school students from various strands at STI College Global

City. To comply with the government's current lockdown policies, data

were gathered through a self-administered survey questionnaire

distributed through a google form. Despite the fact that the results of the

analysis of variance show that the subjects' perceived levels of

mathematical ability are significantly different, the results show that the

subjects' perceptions of the effectiveness of online learning and their

ability to participate in the e-learning sessions are independent of their

lifestyle and the accessibility of the e-learning resources. Cortez, C. P.

Learning at Home: Parents' Lived Experiences on Distance Learning

during COVID-19 Pandemic in the Philippines

According to Agaton, C. B. (September, 2021). Due to the COVID-19

pandemic, schools have been forced to close, which has drastically

changed how students are taught. Students from underprivileged

backgrounds and those living in rural locations, however, have restricted

access to the technology required for online education. Through more

open access to education, modular learning overcomes this learning

disparity. In order to support modular learning amid the health crisis, this

study examined the lived experiences of the parents who serve as learning

supervisors, tutors, and homeschooling teachers. Parents from the

Philippines were surveyed for this study, and inductive content analysis

was used. The findings indicated that the educational strategies, including

as the nationwide school closings, the postponement of the start of

classes, and the use of multiple teaching modes, were effective in

containing the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the

closure of schools and a shift to distance learning, but students from

marginalized families and rural areas lack the technology needed for

online learning. Modular learning is a solution to address this inequality by

providing more inclusive access to education. This study examines the

experiences of parents who act as learning supervisors, tutors, and home-

schooling teachers during the health crisis. The research was conducted in

the Philippines using Inductive Content Analysis. The results show that

educational policies implemented to contain the pandemic are effective,

but parents face various challenges, including the delivery of instruction,

unsatisfactory learning outcomes, financial difficulties, struggles with

technology, and personal problems. This study can serve as a basis for

developing comprehensive and inclusive education policies that consider

the perspective of learners' parents during the pandemic and beyond.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents a description of the research design selection

and description of respondents, research instrument, data collection

procedure and statistical treatment used.

Research Design

The main goal of this study is to find out how South East Asian

Institute of Technology Inc. (SEAIT) BSED 2 nd year Students view the

value of virtual learning. In order to accomplish this, data will be gathered

from a representative sample of BSED second-year students who have

participated in virtual learning using a Descriptive Correlational Survey

approach. Demographic data, virtual learning experiences (such as

duration, frequency, platforms used), and their perceived effectiveness

(such as satisfaction, learning outcomes, and engagement) will all be

included in the survey. All participants informed consent will be obtained

through strict respect to ethical considerations. Descriptive statistics will be

used to characterize sample attributes and perceived effectiveness, and

correlational analyses will be used to find relationships between virtual

learning experiences and perceived effectiveness. The results of the study

will help improve future virtual learning practices by revealing important

information about how well BSED second-year students at SEAIT use

virtual learning. The study will analyze any shortcomings it encounters and

offer suggestions for additional research in this area.

Locale of the Study

The study will be conducted at South East Asian Institute of

Technology Inc., located at National Highway in Crossing Rubber, Tupi

9505, South Cotabato, Philippines.

This Institution was founded in 2006. It was Mr. Reynaldo S Tamayo and

is wife Mrs. Rochelle P. Tamayo who served as the pioneering

administrators of the school. Both were driven by passion and love for

education and humanity and magnanimity were their second skin.

SEAIT offered technical and vocational courses like Computer

Programming NC IV and Computer Hardware Servicing NC II. The

breakthrough of History started on the second phase of the institution.

SEAIT was granted by the Technical Education Skills Development

Authority (TESDA) to offer Hotel and Restaurant Management. The next

year, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) permitted the school

to offer the first four-years science course-Bachelor of Science in

Information Technology (BSIT) which successfully persuaded the target

market. The institution followed a great momentum when the CHED

granted a laddered Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant

Management and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in

Marketing Management. Two years then, the same commission permitted

Research Respondent

The respondents of this study were the Bachelor of Secondary

Education (BSED) 2nd year Students of at South East Asian Institute of

Technology Inc. (SEAIT) for S.Y 2022-2023. From the result of the Slovin’s

Formula, there were a total of 102 respondents that served as the sample

size. Slovin's Formula allowed the researchers to identify the sample size

of the population with a desired degree of accuracy. It gave the

researchers an idea of how large the sample size needs to be to ensure

reasonable accuracy of results.

Sampling Method

The researchers used the Slovin's Formula to get the sample

size of the respondents. To identify the participants of the study, the

researchers used the Simple Random Sampling and the Fishbowl

Technique in which each individual was randomly chosen with the

same probability of being selected.

Validity of the Instrument

The research instrument that was used in this study was subjected

to validation by our instructor in our subject “Quantitative Methods” of

South East Asian Institute of Technology, Inc. The overall average of the

validated survey questionnaire was analyzed, and suggestions and

feedback for improving the study instrument were taken into account.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers made and modified structured questionnaires as

an initial process of survey. The researchers then asked permission from

the BSED Program Head, Mr. Jeff Santillan, of South East Asian Institute

of Technology, Inc. to conduct a study with the Bachelor of Secondary

Education (BSED) 2nd year Students enrolled in S.Y 2022-2023 as the

respondents. The researchers asked for validation of the instruments

through the appropriate authorities. The researchers reproduced the tool

to match the number of respondents considering the instructor approval

which assured that the tool has already been validated. After granting

permission from the program head to conduct the study, the researchers

administered the instruments to the respondents. The results were tallied

and tabulated after the questionnaires were completed. These data served

as the analytical and interpretative bases.

Statistical Treatment

This study used several statistical formulae to treat the data for

presentation, analysis, and interpretation. The formula used in getting the

N
desired number of respondents is the Slovin’s Formula, n= 2
(1+ Ne )

where n stands for sample size, N stands for population size, and e stands

for margin of error. Slovin's Formula allowed the researcher to identify the

sample size of the population with a desired degree of accuracy. It gave

the researcher an idea of how large the sample size needs to be to ensure

a reasonably accurate results.

For subproblem number 1 and 2, which is about the

demographic profile and the sleeping pattern of the students, mean

and percentage was utilized x̄ = ∑ fx N; where x̄ is the sample mean,

Σ means “add up”, f is the frequency, x is the score of each class,

and n is the total frequency.

For subproblem number 3, which is about the significant

relationship between the sleeping pattern and the demographic

profile of the grade 12 senior high school students, Chi-square test,

was the appropriate statistical tool because it is used to examine if

there is a relationship between two variables which applies to this

study.

Ethical Consideration

Ethical considerations are necessary for research projects as all

participants have moral and legal rights. For this study, the researcher

ensured they interacted with the participants in a personal way, that they

did not invade their privacy without consent from them, that the research

did not hurt their feelings and that all information received from them was

acknowledged and accurately represented. Some ethical considerations

this study insured for the participants was:
