Directions (Q.4 to Q.6): In each of the following questions, the symbols @,#,%,$,©
are used with the following meanings:

A @ B means A > B
A # B means A < B
A % B means A B
A $ B means A B
A © B means A > B

Section B (2 marks question)

7. The longest side of triangle is 3 times the shortest side and the third side is 2 cm shorter
than the longest side. If the perimeter of the triangle is atleast 61 cm, find the minimum
length of the shortest side.

8. Show that the numbers 16 and 4 satisfy the numerical inequality A.M. G.M.

9. Solve the following inequalities for real x:

(i) (ii) – 5.

10. Solve the following inequalities:

(i) | | | |

11. If matrix A = * + and A2 = pA, then write the value of p.

Section C (3 marks question)

12. A manufacture has 600 liters of 12% solution of acid. How many liters of 30% acid
solution must be added to it so that acid content in the resulting mixture will be more than
15% but less than 18% acid?

13. If the matrix [ ] is symmetric, find the values of x, y and z.

14. Find the matrix X, if the following matrix equation is true

[ ]X =[ ]

15. What is the value of [ ]?

Section D (4 marks question)

16. In order to supplement daily diet, a person wishes to take tablets of X and Y types. The
contents (in milligrams per tablet) of iron, calcium and vitamins in X and Y tablets are
given as below:

Tablets Iron Calcium Vitamins

X 6 3 2
Y 2 3 4
The persons need to supplement atleast 18 milligrams of iron, 21 milligrams of calcium
and 16 milligrams of vitamins. The price of each tablet of X and Y is rupees 2 and 1
respectively. How many tablets of each type should the person take in order to meet the
above requirements at the minimum cost/ Make LPP and solve it graphically using iso-
profit/iso-cost method?

17. The feasible region for an L.P.P is shown in the figure given below:

Based on the given information, answer the following questions:

(a) Find the equation of the line AD.
(b) Find the equation of the line BC.
(c) Find the constraints for the line L.P.P.

Or

Find the maximum value of the objective function Z = 3x +4y.

18. Solve the following system of linear equations by Cramer’s rule:

Section E (5 marks question)

19. There are two types of fertilizers ‘A’ and ‘B’. ‘A’ consists of 12% nitrogen and 5%
phosphoric acid whereas ‘B’ consists of 4% nitrogen and 5 % phosphoric acid. After
testing the soil conditions, farmer finds that he needs atleast 12 kg of nitrogen and 12 kg
of phosphoric acid for his crops, If ‘A” costs ₹ 10 per Kg and ‘B’ Costs ₹ 8 per Kg, then
graphically determine how much of each type of fertilizer should be used so that nutrient
requirements are met at a minimum cost.
0r
A company manufactures two types of products: Product A and Product B. Each product
requires a certain amount of labor and raw materials. The company has a maximum of
400 labor hours and 300 units of raw materials available per week. The profit from
Product A is $20 per unit, and the profit from Product B is $30 per unit. The requirements
for each product are given in the table below:
Product A Product B

Labor hours/unit 2 3

Materials/unit 4 3

Formulate the Linear Programming Problem (LPP) and solve it using the graphical
method. Answer the following based on your solution:

i) What are the objective conditions and constraint conditions?

ii) What is the optimal number of units of Product A and Product B to maximize the profit?

iii) What is the maximum profit?

20. An oil company has two depots A and B with capacities of 7000 liter and 4000 liter
respectively. The company is to supply oil to three petrol pumps D, E and F, whose
requirements are 4500 liter, 3000 liter and 3500 liter respectively. The distance ( in km)
between the depots and the petrol pump is given in the following table:

Assuming that the transportation cost per km is ₹ 1 per liter, how should the delivery be
scheduled in order that the transportation cost is minimum? What is the minimum cost?
