Form 2 Paper 1

The document discusses ways to reduce plastic bottle waste, including reusing bottles to make crafts and decorations, recycling bottles, and refusing single-use plastic bottles by bringing reusable water bottles. It notes that while recycling helps, the number of plastic bottles is still too high and ends up in landfills. The best solution is to stop using single-use plastic bottles in the first place to reduce production.

Dear Pamela,

On 28th December, I arrived in Manchester. I know I told you I wanted to

go to London but I found that Manchester is better for me to study. On the 25 th
December, my family organised a good-bye party with all family members and
friends. We had a great time. Pamela, I wish you were there!

Now that I am here in the UK for almost a month, I still find the
weather too cold. I finally understand why people say that you can actually feel
sad when it is really cold. On my first few days, I had a flu and bad fever. I
had to visit the doctor. Since I have not registered with the National Health
Service (NHS), it cost me RM250 for just one doctor visit! If this was in
Malaysia, I might only have to pay about RM50.

Back home we always get about 12 hours of sunlight, right? During winter,
we only have about 8 hours of daylight here. By 5 o’clock in the evening, the
sky is all dark and black. The weather is so cold that I have to eat more food
and wear more clothes to feel warmer. However, I am worried that I will gain
weight because of how much food I eat. So, I have joined a gym and go there
every two days to stay fit. Also, I have made some new friends who are kind to
give me tips on staying warm.

However, I really look forward to having my first snow experience. The first
snow is expected to fall any time now. I also look forward to going ice-skating
with some of my friends here during our one-week break.

I hope you are doing well there, Pam. I will write to you again when I have
time.

Your friend,
Sheila

PLASTIC BOTTLES

Plastic bottles are everywhere now. It has become so convenient that

people would just buy and throw away when they finish using them. As a result,
we see so many plastics bottles piling up at the dump site or floating around in the
sea. This is why plastic pollution happens.

Over the years, many have suggested that we should reuse our empty
bottles and turn them into handicrafts and useful items at home. like candle holder
and flower holder. Some even make lamps and purses. Many even make them so
beautiful that they give them as gifts to their family and friends. You can also sell
them to make money.

Many schools also turn plastic bottles into beautiful decorations around
their gardens and gates. This not only makes their schools beautiful, but it teaches
our children the importance of taking care of our Earth.

Another thing we can do is to collect plastic bottles and send them to the
recycling centre. When the recycling centres receive our bottles, it will then send
them to the factory to be recycled. These recycled bottles can be made into
clothes and carpets.

Although plastic bottles can be reused, made into beautiful items or even
be recycled, the number of these bottles are still too high. Many still end up in the
rubbish sites and they will take hundreds of years to disappear.

To deal with the problem, many are suggesting that we should refuse
using plastic bottles in the first place. If we do not buy plastic bottles, the factories
will not make so many of them. This can help reduce the number of plastic bottles
being thrown away.

Therefore, every time before you go out from home, we encourage you to
bring your own reusable water bottle so you do not need to buy from the store. Try
to encourage your friends and family to do the same too. Together, we can save the
world.

Part 5
Questions 35 - 40
You are going to read an article about a school event.
Six sentences have been removed from the article. Choose from the
sentences (A – H) to fit each gap (35 – 40). There are two extra sentences
which you do not need to use.
For each question, mark the correct answer (A – H) on your answer sheet.

Last Monday, our school SMK Kemaman had organised a Sing and Dance
event. 35| In the morning, everyone gathered in our new school hall and our
headmaster, Mr. Vivek gave an exciting speech.

The first activity of the day was the singing contest. All individuals were
really talented. Izzah from my class was one of the singers. 36| To
support her, all of us voted for her.

However, Nelson from another class was Izzah’s biggest competition.

After counting all the votes, she lost to him by just five votes. 37|

Since this was a Sing and Dance event, we could not miss out the dancing
competition. This competition had a twist this year. 38| It was fun to watch some of
the dancers dancing hip-hop in traditional costumes.

However, I must say that some of the dancing teams were really creative.
Everyone cheered for their hard work and talent. After the results were announced, the
winner was a dancing team from 5 Ungu. They received their trophy joyfully from
the head of co-curriculum, Mrs. Lee.

39| Everyone seemed very happy with the event and had a lot of good
words for it. I hope it will be the same next year.

Event like this was useful to all students as we learnt how to work as a team
with our group members. People who had singing and dancing talents also got a
chance to show what they could. 40|

I think learning from experience is extremely important. It helps us grow as a

person. We will remember it for the rest of our lives.

11

E F sang like an angel on the stage. The day ended with a lot of joy.
GH All students and teachers attended the event. All of us danced with joy.
They also learnt to put their creative ideas into actions.
Every team was required to have both modern and traditional dance in their performance.
Although Izzah only managed to get second, we were all very proud of her.
He wanted to sing a different song.
