2024 NATIONAL ARTS MONTH ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

I. Executive Summary
The National Arts Month aims to highlight the skills and talents of learners
through engaging exhibits and artistic performances to further bolster students’
confidence and refine their presentation skills, emphasizing the integral role of art in
community life and its significant contribution. The MAPEH Department together with
the MAPEH and Cultural Club conducted an art exhibit, painting and music-making
contest.
The Ilocos Sur National High School Short Film-making Contest aimed to foster
creativity, teamwork, and storytelling skills among students. Held on the whole
month of February 2024 the contest saw enthusiastic participation from four teams,
each showcasing their unique vision and talent in filmmaking. This event is according
to the National Arts Month 2024 celebration.

TALUGADING TI AGTUTUBO: AN ART EXHIBIT


Days before the exhibit, the Grade 10 teachers and students altogether worked
on putting up the tent and other materials for the activity.
The art exhibit showcased the different artistic skills of Ilocos Sur National High
School learners. The craftsmanship of Grade 7 learners, the designing skills of Grade
8 and 9, and the painting skills of Grade 10. It was publicly opened on February 19-
24, 2024. This activity provided an avenue for learners to show their God-given
talents and it boosted their confidence since their artworks were recognized by many.

PINTAHUSAY
The Pintahusay was conducted on February 23, 2024. The MAPEH and
Cultural Club provided the needed materials for painting except for the paints and
brushes. It was participated by 14 painting enthusiasts from Junior and Senior High
School. It took them 6 hours to paint the 3x4 feet of canvas. All the participants
received a certificate of participation and a cash prize of 500.00 pesos as a consolation
prize for their efforts and time. The winners also received cash prizes, medals and
certificates of recognition. The judges were Ma’am Editha Bagcal, Sir Glenn Tadena
and Mr. Dexter Keith Prepose, a local artist from the municipality of Caoayan. Eczekiel
Luke Agacite of 11-Flourite garnered 3rd place, Gabriel Aquino of 12-Thales garnered
2nd placed and Trixie Anne Ablog notched the 1st place.

MUSIKA-LIKHA
The Musika-Likha was conducted on February 26, 2024. It was participated by
two competing teams which are all Grade 10 students. Each team was composed of 4
members only. Armed with their amplifiers, guitars, beatboxes, and their courage to

perform, they showcased their talents in music composition, singing, and playing
musical instruments. The Grade 10-Maxwell landed the first spot in this competition.

The Ilocos Sur National High School Art Exhibition, Pintahusay and Musika-
Likha, a School-based art and music competition was not just a competition to
unleash talents, but a culmination of creativity, passion, and strengthening the rich
culture and arts of the country. Through collaboration and dedication, students
unleashed their imaginations, talents, and skills. To keep the passion burning, we will
remain committed in nurturing the young minds of learners, promoting and
strengthening our rich culture, and making a lifelong impact to the world.

SINEMA-PRESENTASYON: SHORT FILM-MAKING CONTEST

Pre-production Phase:
Days before the contest, teams engaged in intensive brainstorming sessions, honing
their concepts and crafting compelling narratives. Scriptwriting workshops were
conducted to refine storytelling techniques, while storyboard sessions brought ideas to
life visually. Casting calls and location scouting expeditions added depth to the
production process.

Production Phase:
Armed with passion and determination, teams embarked on the filming journey,
overcoming various challenges along the way. From managing tight schedules, every
obstacle was met with resilience and creativity. Collaborative efforts flourished as
actors, crew members, and directors worked tirelessly to capture the essence of their
stories.

Post-production Phase:
The editing room buzzed with activity as teams meticulously pieced together their
footage, weaving sound design and visual effects to enhance their narratives. Long
hours were spent refining every frame, ensuring that each shot contributed to the
overall impact of the film. Through experimentation and innovation, students pushed
the boundaries of their technical skills, producing polished final cuts that surpassed
expectations.

Screening and Judging:


The much-anticipated screening event showcased the diverse range of films produced
by the talented teams. Judged on criteria such as content, technical excellence and
overall impact, each film was met with applause and admiration from the audience.
The management invited experts of film making as jury of the event.

Results and Awards:


A live judging was done at the school library with a simple awarding ceremony graced
by teachers, competing teams and judges. As the tension mounted, winners were
announced amidst cheers and applause. “Alpas” of Grade 8 learners (Linnaues,
Leeuwenhoek and Adelfa) emerged triumphant, captivating audiences with its
powerful storytelling and technical prowess. Special mentions were also awarded to
“Yapak” of Grade 10 Math Class and “Hustisya” of Grade 7 Science Class, recognizing
their outstanding achievements in as Second and Third Placer. Beyond the accolades,
every participant walked away with invaluable experiences and memories that would
shape their artistic journeys for years to come.

naPINTAS: Promoting Inclusivity and Non-discrimination Through Active


Socialization

DAY 1

FEBRUARY 2, 2024

The "NAPINTAS HUMSS CAMP 2024" started in the afternoon of Friday,


February 2, 2024. Wherein the campers started to arrive at exactly 3:00 PM. The
HUMSS club provided the registration forms and also the attendance. After their
arrival, the campers were also given enough time to prepare for their necessities and
things in their assigned rooms, other campers also set up their own tents.

The first activity of the afternoon was finding their own groupmates through
different colored ribbons; Red, Blue, Yellow, Green. After finding their colors, the
campers are instructed to assign their muse and escort for the Katarakian ti Pintas
and Kalasbangan ti Pintas 2024. The campers from different groups also prepared
their yells, designed their flags, and a simple talent presentation for the Socialization
Night. After all the preparations for the night activity, we ate our first dinner together.

The main event of the Socialization Night was the pageant. The campers
showcased their talents in making dresses that are made up of recyclable and
available materials at school. The beautiful and handsome muse and escorts of
different teams also showed their talents in pageant walks while showcasing the dress
that was made by their team mates. They also answered impromptu questions like
queens and kings. The winners were awarded after the board of judges finished
tallying the results. The HUMSS Club also provided snacks and drinks for the
campers to enjoy. The night was a blast. After the night event, the campers were given
a time to bath, then the lights were turned off for us to sleep after a fun night of
socializing.

DAY 2
FEBRUARY 3, 2024
The campers woke up at exactly 4:30 AM, while preparing for the Zumba Dance
Activity that was led by the dancers of HUMSS Club; Fairy Castro and Emjay Donato.
The campers ate breakfast together after a fun and energizing Zumba. After
eating breakfast, we prepared ourselves for the activities for that day. The first activity
is Damili Making. We invited two of the Damili Makers of Ilocos Sur. They introduced
us with the processes of making the Damili Tile while also demonstrating it. They also
gave us the opportunity to try making our own damili tiles. The second activity was
Painting. We invited a known artist in locos Sur who experienced displaying his
artworks on an art gallery. He demonstrated us on how to properly paint by the use of
a color wheel, and also gave us an opportunity to make our own artworks. After
choosing his favorite works from different art styles, he gave the winners a simple gift
to show appreciation.
We ate our lunch together after successfully finishing two of the amazing
activities in the morning. After lunch, we invited our classmates to make our booths
for the HUMSS BOOTH 2024. They set up their own booth tents using bikal and other
materials. While the other students are setting up their booths, the campers are
getting ready for the next activity which is the Amazing Race. The Amazing Race is a
game wherein they will guess their locations base on hints, and playing the games per
stations. Yellow Team is the first one to get in the finish line.

BOOTHS NG MGA HUMANISTAS

On the bright day of February 1, 2024, the esteemed HUMSS club conducted a
well-organized meeting, bringing together the classroom presidents and vice presidents
from both the esteemed realms of grade 11 and grade 12 within the Humanities and
Social Sciences and General Academic domain. Commencing precisely at 12:15 noon,
the purposeful assembly was convened to deliberate upon the forthcoming event, the
Booth ng mga Humanistas, an event that promotes inclusivity and non-discrimination
through active socialization. It was duly proclaimed during this gathering that
February 4, 2024 is the day of preparatory activities, specifically designated for the
conceptualization and crafting of the booths.
In readiness for this significant day, each classroom presidents were given their
theme which is a goal from the United Nation's 17 sustainable development goals and
also a set of parental permissions were diligently disseminated to them, tasked with
the responsibility of distributing them among their peers who would partake in the
booth design endeavor on February 4, 2024. As the anticipated date unfolded,
February 4, 2024, students equipped with parental permits commenced their tasks
promptly at 1:00 pm, dedicating their efforts to set up and adorn their respective
booths. The diligent work persisted until 5:00 pm, with students gradually completing
their creative endeavors before eventually dispersing homeward.
Subsequently, on February 5, 2024, the momentum of booth design activities
persisted, extending until the noon hour, setting the stage for the grand inauguration
of the NAPINTAS HUMS MONTH celebration and the formal unveiling of the Booth ng
mga Humanistas. The ceremonial proceedings, impeccably guided by the HUMSS Club
officers and adeptly orchestrated by Julian Raboc III and Aileen Somera, commenced
promptly at 1:00 pm. Dignitaries including the School Principal, Assistant Principal,
HUMSS/GAS Subject Group Head, HUMSS/GAS teacher, and esteemed HUMSS/GAS
students graced the occasion with their presence. Following the ceremonious ribbon
cutting, the booths were officially inaugurated, announcing the commencement of
their operational phase.

Throughout the ensuing four vibrant days, each booth availed itself the
opportunity to showcase its unique essence through meticulously crafted designs and
an array of captivating products, including vegetables, locos Sur delicacies, and
handcrafted Valentine's gifts, among others. Each morning, diligent students
overseeing the booths tended to the grounds adjacent to their respective stations.
During recess periods, students from diverse grade levels within the locos Sur National
High School community frequented the booths but as the clock struck 3:00 pm, the
responsible students overseeing the booths cleaned and closed their stations, ensuring
they were ready for the following day's activities.

WEEK OF CONTESTED ACTIVITIES

On the second week of February 2024, the Humanities and Social Sciences
Club conducted the most awaited contested activities among the grade 11 and 12
students of the Humanities and Social Sciences and General Academic strand. Before
the week started, the basic information together with the registration links for the
different contest were posted through the HUMSS-ISNHS Facebook page. The
presidents and vice presidents were also notified through announcements in
messenger group chat. The following are the contested activities with its respective
narratives and results:

Day 1
Quiz Bee
February 12, 2024

The quiz bee happened on llocos Sur National High School library at 9:00
am - 11:00 am. The coverage of the quiz bee includes general information and current
issues national and international. It was participated by 16 teams comprise of 3
people each. There were 3 components in the competition namely; elimination round,
semi-final round, and the final round. The first round, elimination round contained 10
questions worth 2 points each correct answer. On the second round, semi-final round
had 15 questions that is 3 points each correct answer. Lastly for the final round, there
were five questions worth 5 points each correct answer. The questions were only read
twice by the quizmaster.

Day 2
Spoken Word Poetry
February 13, 2024

The Spoken Word Poetry was successfully conducted with the theme "Resolving
One of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals". It started around 9:30
am at the locos Sur National High School library. The language that was used for the
piece was Filipino, in five copies and certainly the original work of the participants.
Dramatization were encouraged and props were prohibited.

II. Issues and Challenges Encountered


Before the conduct of National Arts Month, one of the challenges encountered
was the budget to be used for the contested activities. Luckily, the MAPEH and
Cultural Club have planned some of the activities that are related to the celebration.
The tight schedules and long hours were also among the challenges too since the
teachers involved have also planned ahead their classroom activities. With
collaboration and dedication of teachers, the activities planned was successfully
concluded. It resulted with overwhelming outcome. Different talents were unwrapped
to shape and prepare the learners in facing this 21st century challenges. With proper

guidance and encouragement, the learners will be able to face life’s challenges armed
with creativity, passion and dedication.

III. Recommendations/Ways Forward


The National Arts Month is aimed to develop the talents and skills of learners
and exhibit their God-given talents. The activities conducted were evidently effective as
they provided opportunities to learners develop and nurture their skills, express
themselves with conviction and confidence, and discover new learnings to help them
shape into a valuable citizen that will someday become competent individuals.

Photo Essay Contest


February 14, 2024

The photo essay contest was joined individually by the HUMSS and GAS
students. The contents of their photo essay were all related to the 17 United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals. Students used the landscape and portrait format of
photos. They were also given minimum of 3 sentences and maximum of 10 sentences
with English or Tagalog as the medium of the caption.
They brought their own materials and proceeded to show off their creativity.

Day 4
Radio Drama
February 15, 2024

The Radio Drama Contest was joined by group containing of 6 HUMSS and GAS
students each group. Only an original radio drama by the contestants was allowed
which was contained of a moral or character-building theme on youth, family, unity,
and values which was suitable for general listeners. Students were also encouraged to
follow the ethics of Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Radio Code.
Background music and canned sound effects were utilized by the participants. A
photocopy of their script was submitted a day before their performance. All equipment
and sound effects were provided by each group. The host provided the sound system
and gave the participants 10 minutes maximum of time performance.

llocano Pop Music
February 16, 2024

The Ilocano Pop Music Contest was joined by different sections of Humanities
and Social Sciences and General Academic strand. They were only allowed to enter a
maximum of 3 songs. The contestants only submitted original compositions and the
copyright thereof was owned exclusively by their songwriter-contestant. They
performed their composition live in a very enthusiastic and lively manner.
