distribute allowances available in the lower casing for machining at
critical locations - parting plane and bottom surface.
Take reference of oil pipe axes for distribution of allowances.

Hold the casing on horizontal boring machine keeping spindle opposite
parting plane and clamp. Set the job within 0.5 mm and take fine cut on
the parting plane.
Mark bore axes and casing axis (centerline marking with V-groove, depth=
5mm at two places, both near side and far side).
(V-groove marking operation is to be done after the marking of machining
allowances on lower and upper casing and placing upper casing onto lower
casing and suitably distribution of allowances).

Rotate the table and take fine cut on the bottom surface casing plates
with reference to parting plane.

a) Mill the bottom surface casing plates maintaining 690+0.1/0 mm with
sufficient allowance on parting plane.
Maintain surface flatness to be within 0.05 as per drwg.
See View-C
b) Mill the bottom surface maintaining the dimensions 110x120 on both
sides on both side plates as per drwg.
c) Take skin cut on slot areas on both side plates at 4 places (zone
C-2, C-4, C-8/9 and C-11), drill 4 x dia 17.5 holes to a depth of 42 mm
and tap 4 x M20 threads to depth of 36 mm as per drwg.
d) Machine 2 x 20(H7) (zone F-8 and F-11) and 2 x 20(H7) x 120+20 X
depth= 20(Zone E-9 and F-9) maintaining the coaxially and

Indicate and drill following holes.
a) Mark and drill 12 X dia 14 holes to a depth of 36 mm and tap 12xM16
to depth of 30 mm as per drwg.
b) Mark and drill 8 X dia 21 holes to a depth of 48 mm and tap 4xM24-4H
to depth of 40 mm as per drwg.
c) Mark and drill 10 x dia 10.2 holes to a depth of 30 mm and tap 8xM12
to depth of 24 mm as per drwg.
d) Mark and drill 4 X dia 10 pilot holes for dowels to a depth of 50 mm
as per dwg.
e) Mark and Drill 2 X dia 18 to depth of 2mm for jacking screws as per
drwg.

De-clamp and clamp to drill holes/machine surface as per drwg zones C-2
and C-5.
a) Mill and maintain dimension of 214 as per zone View-D.
b) Mark and drill 4 X dia 14 holes to a depth of 36 mm and tap 4 x M16
to depth of 30 mm on PCD 120.5 at 480mm from parting plane on Lube oil
inlet flange as per drwg.
c) Mark and drill 1xdia8.5 hole to depth of 20 and tap1xM10 to depth of
16 as per drwg.

Rotate the table by 180 degree and drill holes/machine surface as below
(View-B):

a) Mill and maintain dimension of 214 as per zone View-D.


b) Mark and drill 4 X dia 14 holes to a depth of 36 mm and tap 4 x M16
to depth of 30 mm on PCD 120.5 at 480mm from parting plane on Lube oil

Place the upper casing on lower casing and adjust suitably to mark and
distribute allowances available in the upper casing for machining the
parting plane, cover flanges and top of thicker side plates.

Considering the geometry of the frame, the unit may be suitably
supported.

Mark bore axes and casing axis.


Take skin cuts for reference marking as per convenience.
Dial the parting plane with in 0.5mm & set the Job.
Verify the machining allowance.

Completely machine the parting plane of upper casing to measure 530 mm


from top and also ensure pedestal thickness=40mm. Ensure the surface
flatness to be within 0.05 mm over the length of the casing.
Ensure parallelity to be within 0.02 mm.

In the same setting, drill the holes:

Mark and drill 10 X dia 18 holes and spot face dia 36 - 2mm deep as per
the drwg.

Mark and drill 4 X dia 10 thru pilot holes and spot face dia 20 - 2mm
deep for dowels in combined assembly as per drwg.

Mark and drill 2 X dia 14 holes and then tap 2 X M16 thru for jacking
screw as per drwg.

Mark and drill 10 X dia 14 thru holes and spot face dia 28 - 2mm deep as

complete rough machining of bores i.e. bearing no. 21, bearing no. 12,
bearing no. 22 and bearing no. 11 with 2mm allowance on radius.
Also bore the side covers of bearings with 2mm allowance on radius.
Mill the cover face of bearing no. 22 to measure 309.5 +0.5/-0.0 with
respect to casing axis. Maintain perpendicularity of 0.05mm wrt bore of
bearing no. 22 and surface flatness of 0.05mm as per drwg.
Move spindle by 505 within the limits of +0.1/-0.0
Mill the cover face of bearing no. 11 to measure 295+0.2/-0.0 with
respect to casing axis. Maintain perpendicularity of 0.05mm wrt bore of
bearing no. 11 and surface flatness of 0.05mm as per drwg.

Rotate the table, and move spindle to face bearing no. 21.

Machine the bores on low speed centerline axis 12-11

Set the job facing bore of bearing no. 12.

a) Bore dia 180 and counter bore dia 310+0.05/-0.0 in the side cover.

b) Bore dia 180 +0.04/-0.00 and counter bore dia 196 both inside and
outside to measure distance = 34.95 -0.01/-0.03 between the 2 counter
bores as per details-C.

c) Bore dia 200 +0.05/-0.00 in the bore of bearing no. 12 and also, make
groove of dia 230 to width=20mm.

Rotate the table by 180° facing bore dia 160 towards spindle. Check the
face out. Move spindle in the bore & check concentricity w.r.t. Machine
bore #22.

Machine the bores on high speed centerline axis 21-22

a) Counter bore dia 280 to 2mm depth in the side cover.
b) Bore Dia 150 +0.04/-0.0 in bore of bearing no. 22.

Move spindle by 505 within the limits of +0.1/-0.0.


Machine the bores on low speed centerline axis

Move spindle into bore and check concentricity w.r.t. machined bore of
bearing no. 11.

a) Bore dia 230 +0.05/0 in side cover.


b) Bore dia 200 +0.05/0 in bore of bearing no. 11 and also, make groove
of dia 230 to width=20mm.

VII) Get the bore dimensions and concentricity inspected by QC on


machine itself.

a) Drill 6 x dia 10.2 & tap 6 x M12 to depth=24/20 equispaced on PCD
230.
b) Drill 12 x dia 10.2 & tap 12 x M12 to depth=24/20 equispaced on PCD
390.

Rotate the table by 180°


Indicate and drill on cover face #12 as per view.

a) Drill 8 x dia 14 & tap 8 x M16 to depth=30/24 equispaced on PCD 350.

Indicate and drill on cover face #21 as per view.

a) Drill 12 x dia 10.2 & tap 12 x M12 to depth=24/20 equispaced on PCD
300.
b) Drill 6 x dia 8.5 & tap 6 x M10 to depth=20/15 equispaced on PCD 175.

Remove the upper casing.


Clamp the lower casing.
Machine the pin grooves (at 4 locations) of width=7mm as per Detail-B
and 4mmx2mm slots (8 Nos) in the parting plane in all bearing areas.
