What Is It

What causes the moon to change its appearance and position in the sky?
The moon appears different every night
but it actually does not change its shape.
It is because, the moon rotates on its axis as it
revolves around the earth. And together the
moon and the earth rotate around its own axis
as they revolve around the sun. The moon does
not have its own light. Instead, the sunlight
reflects light in the moon in different angles
which give different shape as seen in the
universe. This is known as the phases of the moon.

Phases of the Moon

I have learned that the 1) __________ we see depends on the position of the
earth relative to the moon and the sun. It takes 2) _________ for the moon to
complete its entire phase. 3) __________ phase occurs when the lighted side of the
moon increases from new moon to full moon. During new moon phase, the 4)
__________ is between the sun and the earth. Therefore, we cannot see the lighted
side of the moon. However, we can see a 5) __________ when the surface of the
moon facing the Earth is completely lighted.

What I Can Do
Get out or stay near the window at 8:00-9:00PM. Look at the sky and
