memory, and battery usage while maintaining smooth performance. Modern Android
devices offer significant computational capabilities, but resource consumption should
still be carefully managed.

2. Data Availability and Quality: Reliable and relevant data availability is crucial for
expense tracking. Constraints may arise from limited access to financial data sources
or issues like data inaccuracies, inconsistencies, or missing information. Additionally,
privacy regulations such as GDPR impose constraints on data collection, storage, and
usage, requiring adherence to strict data handling protocols.

9
3. User Interface Constraints: Design constraints related to device screen sizes,
resolutions, and input methods must be addressed to ensure a responsive and adaptable
user interface. The app should provide a consistent and user-friendly experience across
various devices and screen orientations.

4. Integration Constraints: Integration with external services or APIs, such as banking

APIs for transaction data retrieval or cloud storage for data synchronization, may
present challenges. Compatibility with different API versions, authentication
mechanisms, and data format requirements should be ensured for seamless integration.

5. Security Constraints: Protecting users' financial data is paramount, necessitating

measures like data encryption, secure authentication mechanisms, and safeguards
against common security threats like unauthorized access and data breaches. The app
must implement robust security measures to maintain the confidentiality and integrity
of users' financial information.

6. Regulatory Compliance: Compliance with data protection regulations like GDPR and
industry standards such as PCI-DSS is essential. The app must adhere to privacy
regulations, obtain user consent for data collection, and implement measures to
safeguard sensitive financial information in accordance with regulatory requirements.

By addressing these constraints effectively, the expense tracker Android app can be
developed to meet user needs while ensuring data security, regulatory compliance, and
optimal performance.

2.3. Analysis of Features and finalization subject to constraints

In analyzing features and finalizing them for the development of an expense tracker

constraints:

 Relevance and Information Gain: It's crucial to assess the relevance of features
in effectively tracking expenses and managing finances. Features such as
expense categories, transaction amounts, dates, recurring payments, and
payment methods should be evaluated. Prioritize features that offer meaningful
insights into users' spending behaviors and financial habits.

 Dimensionality Reduction: Given the constraints of mobile devices, addressing

high-dimensional feature spaces is essential. Techniques like feature selection
or extraction can help reduce computational complexity while preserving
relevant information. Finding the right balance is crucial to meet resource
constraints without compromising functionality.

 User Interface Design: UI features and elements should be evaluated based on

usability, intuitiveness, and device constraints. Considerations such as screen
sizes, resolutions, and input methods should guide the design of UI components
like forms, charts, and navigation menus. Prioritize simplicity, clarity, and
accessibility to enhance the overall user experience.

10
 Integration with External Services: Features enabling integration with external
services or APIs, such as bank account syncing or receipt scanning, should be
assessed. Ensure compatibility with APIs, data format requirements, and
security protocols to facilitate seamless integration and data exchange. Prioritize
features that enhance the app's functionality without compromising security or
user privacy.

 Security and Privacy Considerations: Features related to data security,

encryption, and user privacy protection should be carefully evaluated.
Implement measures to secure sensitive financial data, authenticate users
securely, and comply with data protection regulations. Prioritize features that
enhance data security and privacy to build user trust and confidence in the app.

 Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that features comply with relevant data

protection regulations and industry standards. Implement features that empower
users to control their data, provide transparent information about data usage, and
obtain user consent for data collection and processing. Prioritize features that
facilitate regulatory compliance while maintaining user trust in the app's
handling of financial information.

By considering these factors and aligning feature selection with constraints, the expense
tracker Android app can be developed to meet user needs effectively while ensuring
adherence to resource limitations, usability standards, and regulatory requirements.
