GROUP 8
EVELYN AVADZI - 22245461
The lab session was scheduled to investigate and measure the values for
current and voltages in a particular circuit implemented on a breadboard.
The same schematic was simulated on proteus, and the values of current
and voltages recorded. Finally, the values were again calculated by hand
using knowledge of network theorems. The corresponding values were
then compared.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The purpose of the lab session was to investigate and compare values for
current and voltage readings using the proteus software and the setup
using a breadboard.
MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
1.BREADBOARD
2.MULTIMETER
5.POWER CABLES
EXPERIMENT SET-UP AND MEASUREMENT
Primarily, the voltage from the power source was measured using the
multimeter which valued 4.95V The Vcc was connected to upper power rail
and the GND to the lower power rail establishing current flow. On the
breadboard, the resistors were connected as was given in the schematic.
The various resistors were identified and connected correctly using the
colour code system. The individual voltage drops and currents measured
across and along each resistor respectively using the jockey. Parallel and
series connections were taken into consideration when measuring the
voltage and current. Source voltage was given as 5V and the resistor values
as 1.2KOHMS, 1.2KOHMS, 1KOHMS, and 5.6KOHMS.
RESULTS
Breadboard
Quantity R1 R2 R3 R4
Current/(A) 0.002 0.0018 0.0003 0.0003
Voltage/(V) 2.69 2.27 1.92 0.34
Proteus
Quantity R1 R2 R3 R4
Current/(mA) 2.26 1.91 0.35 0.35
Voltage/(V) 2.71 2.29 1.94 0.35
Thevenin voltage (V) = 5V
Thevenin resistance(Ω ) =2.215KOhms
R5 = R4 + R3
R5 = 1K + 5.6K
R5 = 6.6KΩ
R5 // R2
𝑅5×𝑅2 6.6×1.2
𝑅6 = 𝑅5+𝑅2 = 6.6+1.2
= 1.105𝐾Ω
CONCLUSION
Using a breadboard and the provided components we were able to set-up a
network as seen in the schematic given and further measured quantities.
We also used the proteus software to simulate the network and quantities
were also measured. Finally, we calculated the values of the quantities,
and all were recorded. We observed similarities across the values obtain
using the three procedures. This goes to prove the validity of the network
theorems, circuit behaviour and comprehend the theoretical foundations
of your design through a multi-faceted approach.
Inaccuracies in the measuring instruments or improper measurement
technique might have caused the discrepancy of the current being over
10%
