Discrimination is treated unfairly in employment based on one or more legally protected categories, or
Subject to illegal harassment at work, or Retaliated against for exercising their rights under workplace
discrimination laws.
Discrimination can happen between employees, or between employee and employer. Discrimination
can be done intentionally or unintentionally. Discrimination is harmful regardless of its intended
purpose.
Race/color discrimination-
In simple terms, racial discrimination is the practice of treating someone differently, or poorly, because
of the color of his or her skin.
For example, if you were interviewing two equally qualified applicants for the same job (one black and
the other white) and you decided to hire the white person because you prefer to work with white
people, you would have engaged in racial discrimination.
Age discrimination-
Age discrimination-
Age discrimination occurs when people are treated differently in any aspect of employment such as
hiring, compensation, benefits, discipline, or promotion due to their age. Also, workplace harassment
based on age is a form of unlawful discrimination.
Age-based incidents of harassment, which could create a hostile work environment, can take the form
of:
Gender discrimination:-
Gender discrimination can be treating an individual differently based upon his/her gender in
academia or extracurricular activities, academic programs, discipline, class assignments given in
a classroom, class enrollment, physical education, grading, and/or athletics.
Sexual preference discrimination-
Sexual orientation discrimination often comes up in the context of employment actions. It
usually refers to a predisposition towards heterosexual people, which is biased against lesbian,
gay, and bisexual people, among others.
