This is my version of a predicted paper based on topics that come up with high
frequency, ruling out topics that have appeared as the main part of a question in
pure paper 1.
It is important to remember that just because a topic has come up in paper 1, it can
still form part of a question in paper 2. As such you should remember that all topics
should form part of your revision and this should not somehow be the only thing
you revise from.
x2 + y2 − 8x + 4 y − 12 = 0
Find

Figure 2 shows a sketch of part of the curve with equation y = f(x) where
(ii) y = f(x) .

Q3.
a + 4d = 6
(2)
Given also that the 8th term is half the 7th term,
(a) Find
(2)
(3)
(b) Hence solve, for 0 < θ < π
(a) Use parametric differentiation to find the value of at the point on C where x = 5
(3)
The curve C has equation y = f(x) where f is the function

The population of a species of animal is being studied. The population P, at time t years from the start of
the study, is assumed to be
(d) find, using , the rate at which the population is increasing when t = 10
Give your answer to the nearest integer.

Q10.
m2 – 2m – 63 < 0
(3)
(b) Hence find the range of possible values of m.

Q11.
Figure 4 shows a sketch of the curve with equation y = 12x2 ln (2x2), x > 0
The finite region R, shown shaded in Figure 4, is bounded by the curve, the line with equation x = 1, the
x-axis and the line with equation x = 2
The table below shows corresponding values of x and y for y = 12x2 ln (2x2), with the values of y given to
3 significant figures.
(a) Use the trapezium rule, with all the values of y, to obtain an estimate for the area of R, giving your
answer to 2 significant figures.
(3)
(b) Use the substitution u = x2 to show that the area of R is given by
(3)
(c) Hence, using calculus, find the exact area of R, writing your answer in the form a + b ln 2, where a
and b are constants to be found.

Q12.
The height of water, H metres, in a harbour on a particular day is given by the equation
(a) Show that the height of the water at 1 a.m. is 4.75 metres.
(1)
(b) Find the height of the water at 2 p.m.
(2)
(c) Find, to the nearest minute, the first two times when the height of the water is 3 metres.
