Purpose and aim of the unit


This unit provides knowledge on the concept of the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and
its importance in delivering results as a Management Information System (MIS). The unit further creates
knowledge on how a HRIS should be developed as a user-friendly application for Human Resource
Management data storage. The unit also demonstrates the importance of HRIS audits to be conducted
and the frequency of such audit so as to ensure that data is regularly updated and current.

Learning Outcomes
On the completion of this unit students will;

 Understand the importance of HRIS as a Management Tool.


 Understand the benefits that can be derived from HRIS
 Understand the perspective of HRIS and how to use its data as a Management Information System
(MIS) for efficiency and effectiveness
 Understand the importance of the need to constantly audit the HRIS for data accuracy
