INTRODUCTION
In this written assignment, we will be comparing the two types of autocracy which is
the authoritarian and the absolute monarchy by giving some examples from nations that
practices the two types of autocracy whether it is about their similarities, advantages,
Firstly, there are a few definitions regarding the authoritarian and the absolute
monarchy in which I have chosen few definitions coming from the Cambridge Dictionary and
as a type of government that demands people to obey complete and refuses to give them
any freedom while the absolute monarchy is defined as a monarchical form of government
where the monarch exercises the ultimate governing authority as head of the state and head
of the government, thus wielding the political power over the sovereign state and its subject
people. Or in simpler words authoritarian is the power of the single ruler which is unlimited
while the absolute monarchy is where the monarch institution is the Head of state from time
Moving on, authoritarian is a type of autocracy that totally opposes the people rights,
and they demand a total obedience from the people to follow their rules and order.
Moreover, the government that practices this type of autocracy often use violence way to
enforces their rules and order in according to their own principles in which we commonly
know from the present and the past where they are very hostile to democracy. On the other
hand, absolute monarchy is where the monarch has a total control of power in all political
authority. For example, Louis XIV of France expressed this idea in the famous phrase “I am
the state” in which it could be interpreted as “I am the government and what I say goes”. This
famous phrase itself shows that the monarch is the one who has full control of the country in
any political authority whether it is about the people, policy making and etc.

Furthermore, there are a lot of countries in the world that are still practicing the
authoritarian and the absolute monarchy. As for the authoritarian, countries such as China,
North Korea, Vietnam, Belarus, Cuba, and more are still practicing authoritarian. On the
other hand, countries such as Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait,
In this topic, after having some discussion our group have decided to make a
comparison between two countries in which we have chosen China for the authoritarian and

CONCLUSION
As for the conclusion, we can conclude that there are a lot of pros and cons between
the authoritarian and the absolute monarchy. Just as per mentioned above absolute
monarchy is also one of the great forms of autocracy as there are high security levels that
protected the monarch which acts as a co-factor to protect the people of the country itself.
Moreover, absolute monarchy tends to have stronger forces that will protect them from any
harm as such as in Brunei, they have the Gurkha Reserves Unit that which is an elite soldier
of the Sultanate of Brunei. On the other hand, authoritarian itself is very beneficial to the
single ruler or individual and the country itself. This can be proven with how the Chinese
government predominantly control all of its economic activities which eventually increases
their economy revenue. For example, China is on the second place in GDP with an amount
of $14.72 Trillion. To end the discussion, we believe that any type of autocracy is good for
the people as long as it is done in such a way that it gives more benefits to the people and
the country.
