5 Areas A Great Project Manager Needs To Master Asap v3
Management
Project Management is all about working with people.
Relationships are in the heart of project management - not
processes and tools.
Moreover, it's not enough to rely on your talent. You can't
invent a leadership approach on the spot. You should be able
to meet a totally new project team, win their trust and support,
and get them to peak performance level.
The same approach should work with stakeholders on your
project. Be that clients, your boss, or subject matter experts -
you need a framework to in uence and control them.
Stakeholder Management is the "technical" aspect; while
Leadership is the practical implementation of People
Management.

#2: Scope Management
Scope management is all about the work you and your project
team needs to perform to nish a project successfully.
So, Scope is the King of project management.
You may think that the project budget or schedule is more
important.
But no matter how good your estimation skills are, with a
poorly identi ed scope, you'll never deliver the project on-
time and within budget.
If you can put more e ort into only one area of your project -
improving scope management skills will yield the most
bene ts.
It includes collecting and controlling requirements, creating a
Work Breakdown Structure and Scope Statement.

#3: Risk Management
Here's one project management concept that many Project
Managers don't understand:
It's not cost-e cient to try to create a perfect project plan. In
some cases, it's even impossible.
By the time you nish planning, the environment dramatically
changes, and you need to start from scratch.
Risk Management allows you to make a plan capable of
withstanding the changes and negative e ects. And you
don't need to change it every other week.
Here's the main problem. You, as a project manager, need to
educate your team and stakeholders on how to do Risk
Management.
Don't think they should know it better than you!

#4: Integration Management
Here’s the bad news! I've searched the internet, and I can say
for sure:
You won't nd practical information on how to integrate a
project and tailor di erent processes.
No one shares practical knowledge in this area. Why?
Each major section of Project Management requires a separate
consideration to make it a cohesive whole. General principles
do not help.
But you have to understand the big picture of project
management and how di erent processes, tools, and
techniques work together as a whole.
You should be able to integrate what you have in the given
company. In the real world, each company already has the
expertise, policies, and tools you have to use.

#5: Personal Branding
Unexpected, right?
But you want to become a Senior-level Project Manager with
127-148K per year salary soon. That's why you need to learn
how to position yourself as a capable PM.
Your CV should be up to date all the time. And it should speak
loudly about your achievements.
Remember, if you don't ask for a promotion or a salary raise -
no one will give it to you. If you don't state con dence to take a
bigger project - no one will give it to you.
It’s projected that by 2027, organizations will need 2.2
million new PMs each year.
It means that companies are struggling to nd project
management talent to cover all critical projects they have. You
should be the go-to person for them.
Starting Point: This topic is fully covered in the PPM Course.
