Note:
The method for preparing a shielded cable is similar to that for preparing a
non-shielded cable. This procedure uses non-shielded cable as an example to
describe how to prepare a network cable.
C-1
For a straight-through cable, wires at one end have the same corresponding colors at
the other end. The sequence of wires complies with the EIA/TIA 568B standard. For
wire relationships of a straight-through cable, refer to Table C-1.

2 Orange 2 Orange
3 White-Green 3 White-Green
4 Blue 4 Blue
5 White-Blue 5 White-Blue
6 Green 6 Green
7 White-Brown 7 White-Brown
8 Brown 8 Brown
For a crossover cable, wires at one end may have different colors at the other end.
The wire sequence at end A complies with the EIA/TIA 568B standard, and the wire
sequence at end B complies with the EIA/TIA 568A standard. For wire relationships
of a crossover cable, refer to Table C-2.

Prerequisite
A pair of diagonal pliers, a wire stripper, a pair of crimping pliers, a network cable tester, a
multimeter, and a pair of gloves are prepared.
Steps
1. Peel the cable jacket (shield) of the twisted pair wires, and cut off the nylon rip cords
within the cable jacket. The peeled length is 16 mm, see Figure C-3.
Note:
When peeling the cable jacket, do not scratch the insulating layer of the twisted pair
wires.
2. Place the peeled twisted pair wires in order, and use diagonal pliers to trim the end of
the wires neatly, see Figure C-4.
For the wire sequence of a straight-through cable, refer to Table C-1. For the wire
sequence of a crossover cable, refer to Table C-2.
1 mm = 0.0394 in.
3. Insert the four pairs of ordered twisted pair wires into the pins of the connector, see
Figure C-5. For example, insert the "white-orange" wire into the first pin.
Note:
When inserting the wires, observe the position of the wires from the side or joint side of
the connector and ensure that the wires completely touch the bottom of the connector.
C-3
4. Use the crimping pliers to press the connector, see Figure C-6.
1. Crimping pliers
5. Insert the connectors on both ends of the network cable respectively into the female
RJ45 socket of the network cable tester, see Figure C-7.
Note:
If no network cable tester is available on site, set the multimeter to the ohms position
instead. Perform simple continuity tests in accordance with the wiring relations.
C-4
6. Set the switch of the tester to the ON position and test the continuity of the network
cable.
The sequence of indicator lighting for a straight-through cable is different from that for
a crossover cable.
l For a straight-through cable: If indicators 1 to 8 are lit one by one, it indicates that
the continuity of the cable is normal and the connections are correct.
l For a crossover cable: If the indicators at the primary end are lit in order of
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-G, and the indicators at the secondary end are lit in order of
3-6-1-4-5-2-7-8-G, the network cable is acceptable.
Note:
Setting the switch of the tester to the "S" position can reduce the flashing rate of
indicators, so that you can observe more accurately.

stickers. For the overview of a ZTE dedicated sticker, see Figure D-6. The pasting
position should be apparent on cables and easy for holding labels firmly.
1 mm = 0.0394 in.
Label Contents
Wire length is printed on the label.
Label Example
For the length label of a 15m-long cable, see Figure D-7.
Label contents should include DDF device number, module number, DDF port number,
peer device number, local device number, subrack number, slot number, port number,
and transmitting/receiving relation.
D-7
Prerequisite
Before pasting a label, write or print correct information on the label.
Context
When pasting labels, pay attention to the following points:
l Before pasting a label, clean the pasting position and ensure that there is no dust or
foreign matter.
l During the pasting process, do not touch the sticky side of the label. Otherwise, the
label may be not attached firmly.
l The label should not be pasted on cable bends or other positions that affect cable
installation.
l Labels should face the same direction. The side indicating where a cable goes to is
upward or towards the operation and maintenance side so that the label can be easily
read.
Steps
1. Place the label about 20 mm to the wire connector, fold the label tail towards the left
side, so that the label is stuck to the cable, see Figure D-8.
1 mm = 0.0394 in.
1. Label head 2. Label tail
Note:
For a vertical cable, the label head is towards the left side. For a horizontal wire, the
label head is downwards.
D-8
2. Fold the lower part of the label head inwards, so that the upper part and lower part of
the label head are stuck together, see Figure D-9.
1 mm = 0.0394 in.
For the overview of a pasted label, see Figure D-10.
