Previous experience VISUAL GRAPHIC DESIGN NC III
with the topic
Learning styles a. Visual - The visual learner takes mental
pictures of information given, so in order for
this kind of learner to retain information,
oral or written, presentations of new
information must contain diagrams and
drawings, preferably in color. The visual
learner can't concentrate with a lot of activity
around him and will focus better and learn
faster in a quiet study environment.
b. Kinesthetic - described as the students in
the classroom, who have problems sitting
still and who often bounce their legs while
tapping their fingers on the desks. They are
often referred to as hyperactive students
with concentration issues.
c. Auditory- a learner who has the ability to
remember speeches and lectures in detail
but has a hard time with written text. Having
to read long texts is pointless and will not be
retained by the auditory learner unless it is
read aloud.
d. Activist - Learns by having a go
e. Reflector - Learns most from activities where
they can watch, listen and then review what
has happened.
f. Theorist - Learns most when ideas are linked
to existing theories and concepts.
g. Pragmatist - Learns most from learning
activities that are directly relevant to their
situation.
Other needs a. Financially challenged
b. Working student
c. Solo parent

DESIGN BRIEF

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Explain the essential elements of a design brief (e.g., project scope, target
audience, objectives, deadlines, and budget).
2. Identify how a well-constructed design brief can influence the success of a
visual design project
3. Examine the various sources of inspiration for concept design.

In the visually driven world of modern business, a logo is much more than a
simple graphic—it's the face of a brand, a visual ambassador that communicates the
essence of an organization immediately. Developing a logo is a nuanced process that
blends art and strategy, demanding a deep understanding of the brand, its market,
and the psychological impact of design elements.

Design concepts can be thought of in two ways

1. Verbal - The verbal parts of the idea will be the words you use to describe the
design. For example, your design concept could be one of graceful elegance.
Verbal ideas appear to be abstract. They are founded on the message that the
design is intended to express with.
2. Visual - The visual elements of your proposal, such as a specific image or color
palette. It might be a good idea to feature circles prominently. Visual principles
are more focused on how to convey the message.

What to do before you create a design concept?
Before diving into the creation of a design
concept, it's essential to lay a solid foundation
by conducting thorough research and gathering
necessary information. Here are key steps to
take before creating a design concept:
Defining the problem - Without knowing the
nature of the challenge, you are unable to solve
it. You should have a conversation with your
customer and inquire about their goals, target
market, brand, and clientele before beginning Source: Canva.com
any design work.

Study - You won't be able to get the information

you need from your client. It will be up to you to
investigate their company on your own by
looking at competitors and attempting to find out
more information about the industry.

Source: Canva.com
Both of the above should get you to think and start the process of generation of
ideas. The next part of it is up to you. You may ask yourself the following questions:

✓ What is the brand’s mission and core

values?
✓ Who is the target audience, and what
are their preferences?
✓ What message or feeling should the
logo convey?
✓ How does the brand want to be
perceived in the market

KEY FACTORS IN CREATING A LOGO
1. Relevant/Appropriate
Your brand should accurately represent your sector and be fit for
the target market for it.
2. Describable/Legible
Provide a clean, uncluttered version of your logo. A logo has an obvious
lines that a viewer can recognize before becoming disinterested in intricate
artistic rendering.

3. Memorable/Timeless
If your target audience is unable to recall your logo, it is meaningless. For this
reason, an Original, basic designs work best.
4. Effective Without Color
Create a variation of your logo in black and white. This is not only making sure
that you in black and white print advertisements, the emblem is legible and
powerful, yet it's also crucial for some promotional products that only allow for
one logo hue.
5. Scalable/Versatile
Simple, reproducible logos that work well in a range of media
applications.

Indeed, there are many different places to find inspiration, and cultivating a wide
range of sources is essential to encouraging creativity in design. The following are
some typical places where designers can find inspiration:
1. Nature: From the vivid colors of flora and wildlife to the organic shapes and
patterns, the natural world is a never-ending source of inspiration. Creative ideas
for logo design might come from observing aspects found in nature, such as
textures, symmetry, and color combinations.

2. Art and Design History: Examining the creations of well-known designers and
artists from various movements and eras can offer insightful information and
inspiration. Analyzing the principles, methods, and forms of art can inspire
creativity and guide design choices.

forms and structures can serve as inspiration for logo design ideas. Examining
architectural features like facades, arches, and columns can inspire abstract or

4. Technology and Futurism: Future-focused ideas and the rapid progress of
technology can serve as inspiration for modern, simple, and stylish logo designs.

in avant-garde and creative designs.

5. Music: is generally motivating. It's also an excellent approach to learn about
rhythm, flow, and the properties of space. Since poetry, especially spoken poetry,

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR)

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Identify the different types of IPR and provide examples.
2. Understand the basic legal frameworks governing IPR.
3. Explain the importance of IPR in safeguarding their work and fostering
innovation

In general, "IPR" relates to industrial designs, patents, copyright, trademarks,

geographic indicators, trade secret defense, integrated circuit design layout, and the
protection of private data. Intellectual property rights specify legal ownership. It protects
the author against unauthorized duplication or imitation of their work or commercial
discovery used in processing or production.

Four Category of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

1. Patent specifies a creation for which the creator asserts the only right to produce,
utilize, and market it for a set amount of time. An invention is a fresh approach to a
particular issue.
1.1 Patentable subject matters
• machines
• articles of manufacture
• compositions of matter
• plants (asexually reproduced)
• designs
• processes – technique of purifying
a protein or nucleic acid; method of
screening for useful drugs; business
methods
• improvements on the above
1.2 Unpatentable subject matters
• laws of nature, discovery, mathematical method or scientific theory
• naturally occurring compounds (i.e., as they exist in nature)
• abstract ideas, mere presentation of information
• technology already known
• a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work or any other aesthetic creation
• a scheme, rule or method for performing any mental act, playing a game or
a program for a computer.

2. Copyright grants the exclusive right to the creator of the original
work, usually for a set period. A broad variety of artistic, literary,
or creative forms, or "works," may be covered by copyright.
• literary (books)
• artistic works (movies)
• computer programs (software)
• musical works (songs)
3. Trademark is a symbol used in conjunction with product or
service promotion. It can also be seen on the wrappers or containers that they are
marketed in.
Category of Trademarks
3.1 Arbitrary or fanciful marks (most distinctive)
unrelated to products (Apple, for computers,
for example). Invented names or fanciful
marks (e.g. Kodak film). maximum degree of
defense.
3.2 Descriptive marks (medium distinctiveness)
Describe the product's usage or function, its
goal (such as the Video Buyer's Guide), and
its exclusive trademark protection.
3.3 Generic Marks (least distinctive) are common name for product or service (e.g.
COLA). Not protected under trademark law. Marks turn generic unless used
properly: e.g. ASPIRIN; CELLOPHANE.

4. A trade secret A procedure, design,

formula, method, or collection of data is
referred to as a trade secret. A corporation
uses this information to give it a competitive
edge over rivals. Trade secrets are kept
hidden from the public. The trade secrets that
Coca-Cola acquired for its formula are an
illustration of intellectual property rights. The
search engine algorithm used by Google is
another.

Importance of Intellectual Property Rights

1. Money related benefit is the foremost critical motive behind man’s tireless work,
innovativeness and inventiveness.
2. One of the issues is the legal characterization of the modern innovation with the
approach
of biotechnology.
3. It is created to protect the rights of the individual to enjoy their creations and
invention.
4. Created to ensure protection against unfair trade practices.
5. To assure the world a flow of useful, informative, and intellectual works.
6. To encourage the continuing innovativeness and creativity of owners of
Intellectual Property.

Revision # 01
Infringement, Misappropriation, and
Enforcement of IPR
Intellectual property rights violations, also
known as "infringement," in relation to patents,
copyright, and trademarks and "misappropriation"
in relation to trade secrets, can give rise to either
criminal or civil law violations, contingent upon the
specific type of intellectual property in question,
the jurisdiction, and the specifics of the case.

Patent Infringement
Usually, it results from utilizing or selling a patented invention without the patent
holder's consent. The claims of the awarded patent describe the boundaries of the
protected invention or the degree of protection.

Copyright Infringement
Copyright infringement is the act of
duplicating, distributing, exhibiting, or performing
a work, or creating derivative works without the
owner's consent, usually a publisher or another
company acting on behalf of or designated by the
author of the work. Many refer to it as "piracy." In
most cases, the copyright holder oversees
copyright enforcement.

Trademark Infringement
Trademark infringement happens when a party uses a trademark that is confusingly
like or identical to another party's trademark in connection with goods or services that
are similar to or identical to those of the other party. A trademark is protected even in
many nations where it is not registered, however registration offers advantages in
terms of legal enforcement. Both civil litigation and, in some cases, criminal law may
be used to remedy infringement.

ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

Learning Objective:

After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:

1. Identify and define the different tools in Adobe Illustrator.
2. Familiar with interfaces and parts of Adobe Illustrator.
3. Sequence the procedures of desired outputs through the manipulation of Adobe
Illustrator workspace.

Graphic software is used to produce, modify, and convert images. files available
in several formats. These digital images could be logos, backdrops, headers, digital
photographs, clipart, or other kinds of digital images for the web. However, there are
many ways that graphic software can be used to alter images. It includes a wide range
of software applications, including paint programs, design and drawing programs,
photo and image editors, graphics displays software, computer-aided design software,
animation programs, and desktop publishing software.

What are the Types of Graphic Software?

There are two primary types of graphics applications: pictures based on pixels
and editors and picture editors according to routes. In short, a picture can be thought
of as a collection of either tiny dots, or pixels, or as a set of instructions on how to draw
a picture. By making the photos larger, you will be able to tell the difference between
path-based and pixel-based images. if objects, even up close, seem hazy. You are
working with a blotchy path-based image.

What is Graphic Software used for?

Creating logos, editing and sharing digital photos, digitally sketching and editing
clips, producing fine art, creating online graphics, designing advertisements, including
product packaging, editing scanned images, producing maps, or additional diagrams
are some common uses for graphics software. Applications for graphics often
incorporate graphics converters. Software typically cannot read raster A vector
graphics format and vice versa. The raster converter uses an arrow A raster image
processor to mathematically transform a vector image into a bitmapped file based on
the locations of the elements. On the other hand, images can be recreated from
photos, sketches, or painted vector illustrations using a raster to vector converter along
with software and equipment. Some image editors allow you to animate scalable
vector images.

SELF EVALUATION
The trainer shall design a self-evaluation questionnaire that he/she shall answer after the
conduct of the training. This shall serve as a checklist of what he/she must do.
During the session, did I? YES NO
1. Establish an atmosphere of trust? ✓
2. Encourage participation of the trainee? ✓
3. Assist the trainees when they needed assistance? ✓
4. Consider the feedback of trainees? ✓
5. Remain aware of non-verbal communication? ✓
6. Praise effort? ✓
7. Summarize key points? ✓
8. Vary activities and tasks to aid attainment of competency? ✓
9. Provide opportunities for practice? ✓
10. Achieve the learning objectives? ✓

Questions:
1. Have you established an environment of trust during the session?
Answer: Yes, there were parts of the session that did not run as expected. For instance,
the initial orientation about the SIT/OJT program was somewhat rushed, leading to
some confusion among trainees about the specific requirements and expectations.
Providing a more detailed and structured orientation session could have helped clarify
these aspects better. Overall, the learning materials and equipment provided were
sufficient and useful for the training. They facilitated effective learning and practical
application of skills, although there were occasional limitations that could be addressed
to enhance the training experience further.
2. Have you encouraged trainee participation effectively?
Answer: Yes, I actively encouraged trainee participation throughout the sessions by
inviting questions, facilitating discussions, and seeking their input on activities. I
considered trainee feedback by adjusting lesson pacing and content based on their needs
and interests, ensuring a more engaging and tailored learning experience.
3. Were you available to assist trainees when needed?
Answer: Yes, I made myself readily available to assist trainees whenever they required
help. Whether it was clarifying concepts, guiding through exercises, or addressing
concerns, I ensured that trainees had the support they needed throughout the training
sessions.
4. Were the session's learning objectives achieved? If not, why?
Answer: Yes, the session outcomes were mostly achieved according to plan. However,
there were a few areas where we encountered challenges. One challenge was related to
time constraints, which occasionally limited our ability to delve deeper into certain
topics. Despite this, we ensured that all essential learning objectives were covered. In
the future, better time management strategies could help in ensuring a more
comprehensive coverage of all planned outcomes.
5. Should anything be changed for the next training sessions?
Answer: For future training sessions, I recommend implementing more interactive
exercises that simulate real-world scenarios. This will provide participants with more
hands-on experience and enhance their practical skills. Additionally, ensuring ample
time for Q&A sessions can help clarify any ambiguities and reinforce key concepts.
Lastly, exploring new technologies or software updates relevant to the field could keep
the training content current and engaging.
