Job From the economic future of the country to the provision of public Description services, statistics are vital to every imaginable area of our lives. Come and join the Government Statistical Service (GSS) as a Statistical Officer where you work across a range of government departments, agencies and other public body playing a pivotal role in UK Government decision making. You will join a team of data experts who work in multi-disciplinary teams to collect, process and analyse the data underpinning our society and economy. From tax to transport, to health, policing and the environment, you can expect to see your analysis hitting the headlines on a regular basis and being used by decision- makers in government and industry at the highest level. The role will require you to apply your Statistical and Data Science skills to innovate and solve problems in data management and analysis and you will be using a range of software packages and analytical techniques. Dissemination skills and the ability to explain and communicate your findings will also be essential. Competence 1 Data Analysis Application Assessment (An understanding of form data analysis) Analysis of Variance Regression Multivariate Techniques Time Series Analysis Index Numbers Generalised Linear Model Hypothesis Testing Competence 2 Data Collection Application Assessment (An understanding of form data collection) Data collection principles Sampling Competence 3 Dissemination Application Assessment (Express statistical or form complex ideas effectively either orally, in writing or both with sensitivity and respect for others) Competence 4 4 Collaborating & Assessment Partnering (Working with others to achieve an end goal) Competence 5 Making Effective Assessment Decisions (Being able to make a decision and understanding the wider impact of your decision) Competence 6 Managing a Quality Assessment Service (Working to a deadline to meet the need/s of a customer/s) Qualification(s) We are looking for candidates who have, or hope to obtain this year, one of the following: • a minimum of a 2:2 degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, such as Maths, Statistics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science, Sciences or Geography. • a graduate diploma of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS). • an equivalent qualification. We also welcome applications from candidates who do not have a degree but can demonstrate significant experience in a statistics related field, plus continuing professional development in a relevant area that leads to qualifications (for example, RSS Higher Certificate).
