Overview

International House Guayaquil is offering a combination of services for the Cambridge Delta Module 1 which
includes a preparation course and the exam.

Delta is at Level 7 of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland
– the same level as a Master’s Degree.

Delta Module 1 is about Understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching. This module
focuses on the background to teaching and learning English in a range of contexts. The topics include:
• Theoretical perspectives on language acquisition and language teaching
• Different approaches and methodologies, including current developments
• Language systems and learners’ linguistic problems
• Language skills and learners’ problems
• Knowledge of resources, materials and reference sources for language learning
• Key concepts and terminology related to assessment.

Delta Module 1 is assessed by means of a written exam of two 90-minute papers.

Paper 1 has five tasks to complete and Paper 2 has three. You can get a maximum of 100 marks for each
paper. Results are awarded as Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit, Pass or Fail, based on the total number
of marks achieved.

Why our course is different!

What is usually said about Delta Module 1 preparation:

- It is stressful.
- Theyre isn’t enough time.
- Limited support.
- Not enough materials available, ended up buying loads of expensive books.
- Difficult to self-study.
 - There’s way too much terminology.
- A very high percentage of failure.
- It is difficult to find a good preparation course.
- I hardly see my tutor during the preparation course.

Our course is different. We can say ‘no’ to all the points mentioned above.
- Delta Module 1 preparation is an essential part of your career development. It shouldn’t be stressful.

- You should have the right to choose when to take your exam and you are free to not sit the exam if
you wish not to. There are two exam dates throughout the year – one in December, and one in June.
We will be helping you to prepare for the December 2022 sitting.

- Endless support is provided by our tutor and our centre. You are free to ask questions by email
whenever, you have a WhatsApp chat, where your tutor is present to help you. You can also book a
tutorial if you need more support, or if you have questions which you want to discuss one-to-one with
your tutor. Your worries and concerns must be solved. Your tutor is with you along the whole journey.

- You get free access to our e-library as well as recommendations on the essential reads. You only need
to pay for the course and the exam fee, the rest is covered.

- It is indeed difficult to self-study when you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is obvious
that you will need to self-study, but you will know exactly what to do.

- There is a lot of terminology, which is - you’ll get to learn a lot and become a better professional. We
help you with terminology – it is covered in inputs, you get to discover and practise terminology, and
you get human-friendly flashcards to help you. We also provide you with guidelines on how to best
approach learning terminology and how much of it to learn in one go. We also pay special attention
to revision.

- It is possible to take Delta Module 1 without any preparation. Moreover, many courses prepare
teachers for this exam simply to tick the box by means of sending you tasks, followed by answer keys,
done. Any of these would certainly lead to a fail grade. We advise you to take the exam when you are
ready, there is no rush. With good preparation and your desire to succeed, a pass grade is highly likely.

- It is indeed difficult to find a good preparation course, but here we are. This course was designed to
really help teachers. We have anticipated problems and analysed our own Delta Module 1 preparation
experiences. We know exactly what would have worked better for us back then. We can’t travel back
in time, but we can help you get it right.

- Trainees would usually see their tutor once or twice throughout all their preparation and most
communication would be taking place asynchronously over emails. You will see your tutor ever
Saturday live on Zoom, the tutor is available throughout the week – reach out by writing an email or
a quick message on WhatsApp.
Course details

IH Guayaquil has an excellent teacher training team. On the course, you will be working with an experienced
Delta Module 1 Tutor, Daryna Luhovska . She is an expert at providing very practical and supportive courses

You will get to analyse and understand each part of Delta Module 1 in depth. The input sessions are designed
to help you with each task and then are followed up with a number of steps. This is how you are going to
learn:

A practical input on one of the Tasks → background reading provided / additional tasks / videos → when you
are ready, a mini mock of the task that was covered → tutor’s feedback.

You will receive 30 hours of input sessions Each Saturday there will be two 90-minute input sessions with a
15-minute break in between. Here’s what we will cover:

1. Getting to know each other, Delta Module 1 full overview.

2. Knowledge of language systems; skills; methodology and approaches; assessment. Paper 1: Task 1
and Task 2 – Terminology Part 1.

3. Knowledge of language systems; skills; methodology and approaches; assessment. Paper 1: Task 1
and Task 2 – Terminology Part 2.

4. Knowledge of language systems; skills; methodology and approaches; assessment. Paper 1: Task 1
and Task 2 – Terminology Part 3. Mini mock - Paper 1 Task 1 and Task 2.

5. Understanding of skills and ability to identify appropriate language features. Understanding of

features of spoken and written discourse which contribute to successful communication, e.g. register,
cohesion, organisation, range of grammar and lexis. Paper 1: Task 3. Mini Mock – Task 3.

6. Ability to analyse and explain learner errors in written and spoken discourse. Understanding of
features of spoken and written discourse which contribute to successful communication, e.g. register,
cohesion, organisation, range of grammar and lexis Paper 1: Task 4. Mini Mock – Task 4.

7. (based on an authentic text) Language analysis (form, meaning, use and pronunciation). Potential
learner problems and solutions. Paper 1: Task 5a.

8. (based on an authentic text) Language analysis (form, meaning, use and pronunciation). Potential
learner problems and solutions. Paper 1: Task 5b, c. Mini Mock – Task 5b, c.

9. (based on an authentic text) Language analysis (form, meaning, use and pronunciation). Potential
learner problems and solutions. Paper 1: Task 5d. Mini Mock – Task 5d. Paper 1: Full mock (all tasks).

10. Understanding of key concepts and terminology related to assessment; ability to evaluate types of
assessment and their purposes; ability to relate principles of assessment to the classroom. Paper 2:
Task 1. Mini Mock – Task 1.
 11. Working with coursebooks. Identifying the purpose of specified individual activities and stages in the
material, how specified activities and stages in the material support those discussed previously, and
then comment on key assumptions about language learning and skills development that are evident
in some or all of the activities and stages. Paper 2. Task 2a, b. Mini Mock – Task 2a, b.

12. Working with coursebooks. Identifying the purpose of specified individual activities and stages in the

Course Requirements and Admissions Information

Applicants:
• must have substantial and varied teaching experience
• must have at least a C1 level of English
• should have a CELTA certificate or equivalent.
• Must complete the application process successfully.

To be accepted to a Delta Module course you must complete this simple process:
1. Complete this application.
2. After we receive your application, we will email you a pre-interview task.
3. Complete the pre-interview task.
4. Have an interview with a Delta tutor.
5. After the interview, you will be notified within 24 hours of your acceptance to the course.
6. Reserve your spot on the course.
❖ The cost of the interview is $35.00. This value will be applied to the cost of the course.

The course has a cost of $900.00 and includes:

Exam cost:
The exam has a cost of $400.00. This includes registration and certification fees. There are no additional
costs. The cost of the exam must be paid in full by 6 weeks before the exam date.

Discounted cost:
If the full payment of the course and exam are made in one bank transfer/deposit the full price is $1200.00
