Teacher Learning Area MATHEMATICS
Session 1
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts, uses and importance of Statistics, data collection/gathering and the different
forms of data representation, measures of central tendency, measures of variability, and probability.
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to collect and organize data systematically and compute accurately measures of central tendency and variability and
apply these appropriately in data analysis and interpretation in different fields.
C. Learning Competencies/ Illustrates the measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) of a statistical data.. (M7SP-IVf-1)
Objectives At the end of the lesson the learners are expected to
Write the LC code for each 1. Define central tendency and mean;
2. Illustrate and calculate the central tendency (mean) of ungrouped data;
3. Appreciate to use of mean in real life situation.
ll. CONTENT Content is what the lesson is all about. It pertains to the subject matter that the teacher aims to teach in the CG, the content can be tackled in a week or two.
Measure of Central Tendency for Ungrouped Data

These steps should be done across the week. Spread out the activities appropriately so that students will learn well. Always be guided by demonstration of learning by
the students which you can infer from formative assessment activities. Sustain learning systematically by providing students with multiple ways to learn new things,
lV. PROCEDURES practice their learning, question their learning processes, and draw conclusions about what they learned in relation to their life experiences and previous knowledge.

B. Establishing a
purpose for the Group Activity
lesson (5 minutes) The teacher will group the class into four and let each group assign a leader. Each group will be given a sound to make once they
are done.
GROUP SOUND
GROUP 1 Tweet! Tweet! Tweet! Tweet!
GROUP 2 Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!
GROUP 3 Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit!
GROUP 4 Arf! Arf! Arf! Arf!
Task: Stack a set of notebooks with 2, 4, 1, 3, and 5 notebooks each stack. Re-stack the notebooks for us to have the same
height/number.
2 4 1 3 5 3 3 3 3 3
Guide Questions:
1. How many notebooks must each stack have?
2. How do you interpret the data?
The original stack of coins can now be described by a single digit which is 3.
C. Presenting
examples/ Measure of central tendency - (also referred to as measures of centre or central location) is a summary measure that attempts to
instances of the describe a whole set of data with a single value that represents the middle or centre of its distribution.
new lesson
(10minutes) 3 Main Measures of Central Tendency:
1. Mean
2. Median
3. Mode
Guide Questions:
1. What number did you chose?
2. What is the sum of those answers?
3. What is the answer when you divide it to 20?
4. Based on the activity, what do you think is the meaning of mean?
Mean ( x - “x bar”)
- It is commonly known as average. It is the most popular among the measures of central tendency because it is mostly used. It is
calculated by dividing the sum of given numerical data by the total number of data.
Where:
Formula: Σ x – sum of all numerical data
Σx n – total number of numerical data
x=¿
n
Examples: Find the mean score of Swed in his 5 quizzes. His scores are as follows:
8, 12, 13, 9, 10
Σx
x=¿
n
8+12+13+9+10
x=¿
5
52
x=¿
5
x=¿10.4
Based on the collected data, find the mean of the following task assign to your group.
Group 1 Task: Find the mean of the daily allowance of your group members.
Group 2 Task: Find the mean of your father’s salary per day.
Group 3 Task: Find the mean of the number of members live in your house.
Group 4 Task: Find the mean of the age of the eldest siblings in each member.

concepts and skills 1. What is the use of Central Tendency? – It helps to provide an accurate description of the entire data.
in daily living (5 2. What do you think the importance of Mean in real life? Recall the scenario given during the Motivaton.
minutes) - Teaching: Teachers calculate the mean grades of every student so that they can identify if the student passed.
- Healthcare: Insurance analysts often calculate the mean age of the individuals they provide insurance for so they can know the
average age of their customers.
- Real Estate: Real estate agents calculate the mean price of houses in a particular area so they can inform their clients of what
they can expect to spend on a house.
- Human Resources: Human Resource managers often calculate the mean salary of individuals in a certain field so that they
can know what type of “average” salary to offer to new employees.
- Marketing: Marketers often calculate the mean revenue earned per advertisement so they can understand how much money
their company is making on each ad.
