SEMI - DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL MATHEMATICS

School INDAHAG NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Grade Level 11

Teacher SHEENA MAY Y. MAÑANGAON Learning Area STATISTICS & PROBABILITY
Date & Time APRIL 2, 2024 @ 2:40–3:30PM Quarter 4
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of normal
probability distribution.
B. Performance The learner is able to accurately formulate and solve real-life problems
Standard in different disciplines involving normal distribution.
C. Most Essential Illustrates a normal random variable and its
Learning characteristics. M11/12SP-IIIc-1
Competencies Constructs a normal curve. M11/12SP-IIIc-2
Objectives:
At the end of the 50 – minute period, the students should be able to:
1. illustrate and describe the characteristics of a normal random variable;
2. sketch a normal random variable with patience and determination
3. explains the implications of the normal random variable in real-life situations.
II. CONTENT NORMAL DISTRIBUTION
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
IV. REFERENCES
A.
1. Teacher’s Guide
2. Learner’s Materials
3. Textbooks
4. Additional
Materials from
Learning Resources
(LR) Portal
B. Other Learning
Resources
V. PROCEDURE
Preliminary 1. Prayer
Activities 2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance

Indicator 1: Applied knowledge of content within and across

curriculum teaching areas
Indicator 2: Used a range of teaching strategies that enhance learner
achievement in literacy and numeracy skills
Indicator 3: Applied a range of teaching strategies to develop critical
and creative thinking, as well as other higher-order thinking skills
Indicator 7: Established a learner-centered culture by using teaching
strategies that respond to their linguistic, cultural, socio-economic
and religious backgrounds
Indicator 8: Adapted and used culturally appropriate teaching
strategies to address the needs of learners from indigenous groups
Indicator 9: Used strategies for providing timely, accurate and
constructive feedback to improve learner performance

A. Reviewing previous RECALL PREVIOUS TOPIC

lesson or  Ask any student to recall and explain the previous topic.
presenting the new
lesson
B. Establishing a DEMONSTRATING THE NORMAL DISTRIBUTION
purpose for the  Show a simulation of a Galton Board and ask students the
lesson following questions:

https://www.transum.org/Maths/Activity/PhET/Plinko_Probability.asp

1. How would the balls flow from top to bottom?

2. How do you think the balls would arrange themselves?
a. Uniform

b. Random

c. Bell – shape

 Ask the students to explain what they understood regarding the

results.
“Over time, as many balls are dropped, they tend to form a
distribution in the bins that resembles a bell curve”
C. Presenting  Say that, this bell curve is called a normal distribution. Normal
examples/instances distributions are very important in statistics because it occurs very
of the new lesson commonly in most of the things we see in nature around us. For
example: in finance, like the salary distribution in an office,
healthcare, height/weight distributions, reading ability, job
satisfaction, grading distribution, Percentile calculations, and
much more.
 Explain that data may be distributed in different ways but most of
the time data are normally or approximately normally distributed.
Thus, when plotted on a graph, the data follows a bell shape.

D. Discussing new  Discuss the normal distribution and its properties.

concepts and
practicing new skill
#1
 From time to time, ask students for any clarifications or questions.
E. Discussing new  Discuss how to sketch a normal distribution.

#2

F. Developing mastery  Let the students answer the activity on their notebook.

G. Finding practical  Construct a normal curve using the given situation.

concepts and skills
in daily living
H. Making Call random students to summarize their understanding of the topic.
generalizations and
abstractions about
the lesson
I. Evaluating learning QUIZ ON THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF NORMAL DISTRIBUTION
 Play the MYSTERY BOX GAME. (Indicator 2)

 There will be 5 teams. Each group will be composed of 8-10

members regardless of their gender, age, ethnicity, and social
status. (Indicator 7)
 Each team will identify 2 statements as TRUE/FALSE. Before
answering, the group will read the statement. (Indicator 2)
 The following are the statements.
1. The normal curve is a bell-shaped probability distribution.
2. The normal curve is defined by the mean and standard
deviation.
3. The normal curve is asymmetrical.
4. The tails of the curve touch the baseline so that the curve can
cover 100% of the area under it.
5. This is the normal curve when mean is 75 with a standard
deviation of 10.
6. Under the normal curve, the areas at the tails are minimal.
7. Normal distributions are also called the Bell or Gaussian
Distribution.
8. The area under the normal curve is 2.
9. In a normal curve, 68% of the values are within 2 standard
deviations of the mean.
10. In a normal curve, 99.7% of the values are within 3 standard
deviations of the mean.
J. Additional Activities
for application or
remediation

VI. REMARKS
VII. REFLECTIONS
A. No. of learners who
earned 80% in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who
require additional act. for
remediation
C. Did the remedial Lessons
work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why
did these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my principal
or supervisor can help me to
solve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to
share with other teachers?
