Customer Complaint:- Inspection of the engine for submerge into the water due to flood.
Observations

Leakages-Air, oil, fuel, Coolant ok Fuel Visual Condition Contaminate.

After receiving complain from customer, attend the site and get information from customer
that the engine was submerged into the water due to flood.
Inspection:-
1. Due to water accumulation in the DG room moisture absorption may have happened in DG main
alternator winding.
2. Water ingress in the fuel & engine system has been noticed. After that drain out the
contaminated oil and contaminated fuel from the engine.
3. Self-starter, batteries and engine starting relay are found in wet condition.
4. Water ingress in the DG room due to flood situation, during the same the battery connection of
the DG set was not disconnected. Hence there is a possibility of short-circuiting in the engine
control system & wiring harness (like pandaros governor, actuator, start and stop relay, all
engine sensor).

Engineers’ recommendation:
1. Alternator need to be sent to the workshop for further inspection. After dismantling the alternator at
workshop, need to be checked the main rotor winding, exciter rotor, excitor stator winding, bearing and
rectifier assembly. If any abnormality is found, then the components need to be replaced. Also alternator
heat varnishing is required.
2. Need to be carried out servicing of the engine due to water ingress.
3. Injector calibration is required due to the fuel system being contaminated.
4. Self-starter servicing required due to water ingress.
5. Batteries need to be replaced.
6. Pandaros governor, actuator, start & stop relay, all sensors need to be replaced.
7. Fan belts need to be replaced.
8. At this situation we could not check the engine performance. After completing all the jobs, we
could check the engine performance after starting the engine. If further anything is required can
be confirmed accordingly after the completion of the said jobs.
