1. OBJECTIVES
• What is Cisco Packet tracer
• Applications of Packet tracer
• Connecting two computers in LAN
o Through crossover cable
o Through Switch and straight-through cable
• Observing real time mode
• Observing Simulation mode

2. Cisco Packet Tracer

Cisco Packet Tracer is a powerful network simulator which can be used for learning about networks. This
simulator enables students to learn;

• Functioning of various networking devices

• Connecting various devices in networks

• Implementing various networking protocols such as STP, HSRP, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP,
lapplication layer protocols (HTTP, FTP, TFTP, DNS etc.)

• Performance analysis of network and algorithm in both real time and simulation mode

3. Applications of Packet Tracer:

a) Getting hands-on experience of networking concepts

b) Preparing for professional certificates such as CCNP and CCNA

4. Packet tracer components introduction

4.1. Communication Devices

On the lower left corner, there are all the components required for creating network. There are routers,
switches, End devices, Hubs, Wireless Devices, and Connections etc.
• Connecting wires are highlighted below:
• Switch can be found in the same corner as highlighted below
By clicking on any device (Switch) a physical view of device

• Click on the “Config” tab just beside the “Physical” tab.

• Click on any “PC” we just placed. You should see something similar
to “CPU”. This is the physical view of the PC. We can even see the Power
button

7.1. Lab Task 1

Insert screenshot of each step

1. Take two end devices (computers), connect them using the right cables.

2. Assign static addresses to both devices

3. check both computers one by one and using message box.

7.2. Lab Task 2

Insert screenshot of each step

1. Connect three devices in star topology using Switch (Skip)
