Course Description: This course introduces students to the contemporary world by examining
the multifaceted phenomenon of globalization. Using the various disciplines of the social
sciences, it examines the economic, social, political, technological, and other transformations
that have created an increasing awareness of peoples’ interconnectedness and places
worldwide.
An overview of the many debates in global governance, development, and sustainability is
provided throughout the course. It aims to cultivate a feeling of global citizenship and ethical
responsibility and expose the student to the outside world.
