Waste Analysis and

Characterization Study
The procedures in this booklet are based on the
“GUIDELINES FOR THE CONDUCT OF WASTE ANALYSIS
AND CHARACTERIZATION STUDY ON MUNICIPAL SOLID
WASTES” developed by the Environment and Biotechnology
Division of the Industrial Technology Development Institute,
Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ITDI).

The WACS Guidelines have been approved by the National


Solid Waste Management Commission of the Republic of the
Philippines in the form of a resolution, and shall serve as a
standard and mandated methodology for the related component
of the LGU 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan submissions
and updating.

Copies may be reproduced with permission, but should not be


sold.

This guidebook was prepared by Environweave under the


financial support of the Japan International Cooperation
Agency - Philippine Office. Technical support was provided
by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies under the
collaboration between the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources and the Ministry of Environment Japan.
