Examining the impact of innovative educational technology on special needs education
(SNE)in Central Eastern Education Division Secondary Schols

1.0 Introduction

In recent years as noted by Oredein and Obadimeji (2022), the intergration of technology into
education has shown immense potential of enhancing experiences for students with special
needs.However, despite efforts by various stakeholders in Malawi's education sector, there
remain challenges in utilization of technology in special needs education (Malawi ministry of
Education,2020). Central Eastern Education division has a swelling number of students with
special education needs. Hence, understanding the impact of innovative educational technologies
in Central Eastern Education Division schools is vital in filling the gap that exists between
students with special education needs and their peers in education.

1.2 Statement of the problem

Although technology has been incorporated in education of Malawi including special needs
education, it's impact remain blurry. Lack of well trained staff and inadequate technological
resources are some of the problems affecting special needs education(Chataika, Kamchezera and
Nsephere,2017).

1.4 Specific objectives of the study

.To assess the technological problems affecting special needs Education.

.To identify impacts of technology on special needs education

. To examine strategies of fully utilizing technology in special needs education

1.5 Significance of the study

.The study will help education planners to meaningfully incorporate innovative


technology in special needs education

.The findings will help schools to utilize technology in addressing the gap between
students with special needs education and their peers
