Cultural and Societal Impacts

The term "juvenile delinquency" refers to criminal action committed by minorities. They have not
reached the age of majority, hence they cannot be prosecuted like adults. The reasons of
adolescent delinquency have been hotly debated and include social, psychological, genetic, and
cultural aspects. To properly examine how culture influences delinquency, it is important to
define culture. Culture is a comprehensive pattern of human behaviour that includes social,
racial, religious, and ethnic groupings as well as thought, language, communication,
conventions, behaviours, values, and beliefs.By reviewing the literature and concentrating on its
causes, effects, and solutions, this paper offers a thorough analysis of juvenile delinquency and
the social, economic, and cultural elements that contribute to delinquent behavior in young
people. (Yadav, 2023)

Society plays a crucial role in the moulding of a minor's behavior. Juvenile delinquency is a
widespread social concern, particularly when compared to other socioeconomic challenges.
Juvenile offenders, or people under the age of 18, play a substantial role in the rise of violent
crime in many countries. Poverty, exposure to delinquent peers, a lack of educational options,
and difficult parental situations are frequently cited as causes of this problem (Abhishek &
Balamurugan,2024) The main variables that induce youngsters to commit crimes include peer
pressure, the adolescent stage (personality and emotional instability), financial instability,
environmental factors (environment, parental abilities, and family background), and social
media. It was also discovered that education is a significant factor in forming moral principles
and belief systems, and that schools and the community can develop awareness programs,
role-plays, and counseling to teach young people how to deal with conflict, aggression, and
positive self-evaluation (Surong & Lyngdoh, 2020).

Juvenile delinquency is influenced by several key factors:

1. Family Factors. Poor parental guidance, neglect, and family conflict can lead to criminal
behavior in children. A lack of emotional support and positive role models at home can foster
resentment and anger, pushing youth toward crime.
2.Individual Factors. Peer influence plays a significant role. If parents are overly restrictive or
absent, children may gravitate toward negative social circles that encourage delinquent
behavior to feel accepted.
3.School Factors. Poor academic performance and lack of engagement in school contribute to
delinquency. Schools that lack discipline and support can leave children feeling isolated, while
bullying may further drive them toward crime.
4. Substance Abuse Factors. Exposure to drugs and alcohol can lead to dependency and
criminal acts as children develop unhealthy coping mechanisms.
5. Socio-economic Factors. Economic disadvantage correlates with higher rates of delinquency.
Children in impoverished areas may feel compelled to engage in illegal activities to survive,
particularly if they lack access to education and essential resources.
Overall, the interplay of these factors significantly shapes the likelihood of juvenile delinquency
(Abhishek & Balamurugan,2024).
Many variables at both the micro and macro levels have contributed to the rise in adolescent
delinquency, which has become a significant social concern (Lobos, 2020).Because of the
continuous growth of the brain, adolescence is a crucial time when people are more likely to
engage in delinquent behaviours. Teenagers are thought to be influenced and under pressure to
engage in delinquent behaviour during this stage by their peers. A major societal problem,
juvenile delinquency has a significant financial impact on society in addition to having an impact
on the mortality and general well-being of teenagers (Yeng & Mohamad, 2023). The significance
levels of the components that contribute to juvenile delinquency were ascertained using the Full
Consistency Method (FUCOM). The results show that "Family" and "Economic and Social
Factors" are by far the most important risk factors for juvenile delinquency. Relevant elements
are crucial in determining the social dimensions and larger perspective on juvenile criminality
(Korucuk,2024).
