Cultural and Societal Impacts
Cultural and Societal Impacts
The term "juvenile delinquency" refers to criminal action committed by minorities. They have not
reached the age of majority, hence they cannot be prosecuted like adults. The reasons of
adolescent delinquency have been hotly debated and include social, psychological, genetic, and
cultural aspects. To properly examine how culture influences delinquency, it is important to
define culture. Culture is a comprehensive pattern of human behaviour that includes social,
racial, religious, and ethnic groupings as well as thought, language, communication,
conventions, behaviours, values, and beliefs.By reviewing the literature and concentrating on its
causes, effects, and solutions, this paper offers a thorough analysis of juvenile delinquency and
the social, economic, and cultural elements that contribute to delinquent behavior in young
people. (Yadav, 2023)
Society plays a crucial role in the moulding of a minor's behavior. Juvenile delinquency is a
widespread social concern, particularly when compared to other socioeconomic challenges.
Juvenile offenders, or people under the age of 18, play a substantial role in the rise of violent
crime in many countries. Poverty, exposure to delinquent peers, a lack of educational options,
and difficult parental situations are frequently cited as causes of this problem (Abhishek &
Balamurugan,2024) The main variables that induce youngsters to commit crimes include peer
pressure, the adolescent stage (personality and emotional instability), financial instability,
environmental factors (environment, parental abilities, and family background), and social
media. It was also discovered that education is a significant factor in forming moral principles
and belief systems, and that schools and the community can develop awareness programs,
role-plays, and counseling to teach young people how to deal with conflict, aggression, and
positive self-evaluation (Surong & Lyngdoh, 2020).
