3. a) Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.
Long time ago, the python and alligator were great friends. they were inseparable. python invited
his best friend to attend his homecoming ceremony. The white party was organized by his wife
after python’s return from the jungle. The python’s family gave a condition: only guests in white
are allowed to join the table for dinner. Alligator did not get an opportunity to enjoy the sumptuous
dinner, his dark colour and broad, rounded snout made it impossible for him to party with his friend.
He walked home though disappointed.

The two friends met the following week. The alligator’s in-law had invited him to a big party in
their palatial home. He was informed to come with his best friend. The alligator therefore invited
the python to accompany him. When they reached the gate, they could sniff the pleasant aroma in
the atmosphere.

“My friend,” began the alligator, “Remember to practice self-control. My in-law is a generous
person but do not over eat. It is dangerous for your health.”

“Do not worry, I have the largest stomach in the jungle,” boasted python.

“The stomach has a capacity that must never be exceeded,” whispered alligator, as they neared the
reception.

When python saw the roasted goat meat, his mouth began to water. After a brief prayer, he began
swallowing everything that was presented before him. This excited the alligator’s in –laws who had
by now gathered to watch the spectacle. They kept encouraging him to swallow chunks and chunks
of food. Other guests also gathered to cheer him on. Alligator tried to stop him in vain. He ended
up swallowing so much food that his abdomen began to ache. To impress his audience, python also
devoured the alligator. Sadly, it was too late to help. Since that day, python swallows the alligator.
